Apparently there is a custom of swimmers on the shore of the river "mooning" the train as it returns to Durango, and we got the full view on our way back! This is a beautiful river to view as well as to swim in and...More

We enjoyed our time on the river. We highly recommend the rafting trip. It is too bad the city put a waste water plant on it downtown.

We went paddle boarding one day and running along the trail the next. The water was calm enough for paddle boarding/ floating in many areas. The rapids were more active where we got out.

We were in Durango and the river was at a normal level which is unusual for May. The river is normally higher with winter snow melt but it was a mild winter. The river was still fast and still allowed for good rafting and kayaking....More

This is a great river to play in with a reminder that it is melted snow runoff, so it is cold. The main play areas are in and around Durango and we had a great half day rafting trip. Plenty of people had their deck...More

I cannot believe how beautiful the water is in this river. Just outstanding. Was able to get some great shots from the train ride through the valley.

The Animas is the scenic center of Durango. Very pretty, though the river is low this year due to the current drought. There is a great river path that is popular with walkers and joggers. The river borders the large of-leash dog park. near the...More

A very beautiful mountain river that we followed for many miles while driving on the highway. Kayak and raft rentals are available in Durango.

While I do not know for sure if there are vacation homes available I highly suspect it. The area is filled with a great deal of natural beauty that certainly would attract folks to offer a vacation home paradise.

When the river is really running, there is one rapid that is a class IV - V. We have rafted with children as young as six and my parents who are in their 70s. Never any problem and we have always had a fantastic time!
