I personally have not taken a kayak ride down the Animas River but while hiking along it I have watched people float along the river. Have also seen rubber rafts taking visitors down the river. It seems to be a popular water sports area. It is a beautiful river that is always clear and clean when we have visited. I... More

This river ran right outside of our hotel (The Double Tree in Durango Co.) The areas surrounding the River and the River itself are breathtaking. Walk along the river and picnic on the banks and take in the piney scent and fresh air that is Colorado!

Animas River my not have the widest and most dangerous white water rafting, but it is perfect for most of the family. When floating take in all of the natural beauty and listen as nature sings her sweet song to you.

Took the train along the river to our Soaring Zip Line adventure. What a beautiful ride. The river is gorgeous! America at it's best!

You get a great view from the Durango to Silverton RR. I would recommend the right side of the train going to Silverton.

We took the train from Silverton to Durango and loved how the train follows the Animus River, so we were able to see many parts of it and it is so beautiful. We also enjoyed the view from Seriously Texas Bar-b-Q as you can sit outside with a view of the Animus River. Very nice!

It was a short walk from our stay at the Durango Riverside RV park to Baker Bridge where we found the most beautiful scenery and apparently where a scene from the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid was filmed.

Animas River runs for miles through the San Juan Mountains. The fly fishing is supposed to be good around Durango but further north has a lot of pollution from the mining activities. Beautiful river.

This river runs near/in Durango, but the best way to see it is by riding the Durango-Silverton train. It travels very close to th River for much of thr ride. The name Animas means spirit or soul which is very applicable! It is a beautiful River. In warmer months of summer, it can be rafted or tubed.

we first saw this river as we crossed the bridge into town and was impressed on how fast the water was running.......saw the river the entire trip up to Silverton on the train and it was running quite fast throughout the trip
