The Hortus in Haren is always worth a visit. It's large enough for a good walk, but if you don't want to walk very far can choose to stay close to the entrance and just visit the beautiful Chinese garden. This garden was sponsored by the Chinese community in Groningen and it feels like a little piece of China. A... More

If you are in the area, it is worth a visit - in part to see the fascinating upmarket neighborhood with rather grand houses that line the route from the train station (20 min walk or there is a bus from the train). The entrance to the Hortus was opposite a filling station, which was unexpected. The gardens are large... More

The Chinese garden has a nice atmosphere. The rest of the gardens were not so special. Spend a few hours walking but the Pokemon Go gyms were much more interesting at this place. Shame of the EU 8,50 entry

I've visited the garden with my girlfriend from Vietnam. We both liked it very much. It is just like the real deal, very calming atmosphere. Only bad thing is the price. The rest of the gardens were not that interesting, but that's a matter of opinion. But it's a good place to spend some hours to relax!

We paid e8,50 per person entrance. For that amount you expect something. It was a big disappointment. Wrong names placed at plants/trees, a rosarium without roses, lots of weeds, a garden in decay! We expected a greenhouse, but it is gone. In the past it was a real Hortus Botanicus, but now it is a park, nice to stroll around.... More

I know the Hortus has been in financial difficulties for years, but keeping it open in this stat of disrepair is a disgrace. We got in for free, and found that to be too expensive. There has been no visible maintenance done for quite a while. One of the main attractions are the Chinese gardens, "The hidden Ming realm," designed... More

A beautifully designed garden a few kilometers from the city. Even in March it had things to appreciate. Water, rockeries, winter-flowering shrubs, chinese garden etc. Well worth a few hours.

This garden is in Haren, south of Groningen. Take the bus not the train, it gets you nearer to the Garden, even then it is a good walk to get there. This is a wonderfully large botanical garden, well labeled and maintained. The Chinese Garden in particular is superb. If you take your Schatkaart, which is available for free at... More

Bit of a swine to find as they don't seem to put many signposts up, but worth it. I am not usually keen on gardens but I really liked these. Loved the scale of the place and the variety. One tip - don't miss the bees!
