Overview

Visitors can enjoy an easy walk over 1,000 feet into the mountain and see several tunnels. Experience the challenges of working by candle light, view seven of the 17 gold veins discovered, see the machinery and tools and explore a stope. Visitors will also learn about drilling, blasting and mucking and the importance of mining back in the early days of the Wild West. The Capital Prize is still an active mine and visitors will see a modern prospecting operation which includes dredges, sluice boxes, classifiers and shaker tables. In the warmer months, guests can try to find their fortune, or just have fun gold panning outside!

Thanks Nicloe. It was nice of you to come from Breckenridge to see this new attraction, and I'm glad the kids had fun panning and breaking open their gold rocks.

The gold mine tour was the highlight of our field trip! A historic gold mine was the perfect addition to our Georgetown trip. The mine was dry, warm and large enough so that even the most claustrophobic visitors felt comfortable. Of course, the interesting and...More

Thanks Cindy, your large group (16 maybe?) was a blast to be with and very engaging. Your group was very knowledgeable about mining and I'm glad they enjoyed the mine and all the gold veins available to see.

Thanks June, I try to make it fun and exciting for everyone, and a little humor helps distill some fears with some people who find going underground a little intimidating. But, that's also the thrill of going underground!

Fabulous. This was a big and rich gold mine in Georgetown, Colorado. The walking tour goes deep into the mine and you get to see several real gold veins. Highly recommended!

It is a good interpretation of what mining was like around the turn of the century. Great guides! Answered everyone's questions and knew a lot of history.
