About
The Avalon Theatre was and still is one of Western Colorado's largest performing arts halls. Founded in 1923 by local publishing giant Walter Walker, the Avalon saw a 9.65 million dollar renovation in 2014. The Avalon has public events that include movies, concerts, theatrical performances, nationally touring acts and more! We boast recent performances from Clint Black, The Moscow Ballet, Rodney Carrington and Lyle Lovett. There's something for everyone at The Avalon!

Dinner and a movie
Sep 2019 • Friends
This is truly the best deal in town. Enjoy dinner downtown on Tuesday evening and then take your receipt to the Avalon and get in free. Our group of women had the best time and the theater was full!! The theater is well kept and clean and the employees are friendly. Venues very and movies are not always first run. You will always have a good time!

Concerts at the Avalon
Oct 2018
I have the opportunity to attend two diffferent concerts at the Avalon. The venue is always good and tickets affordable. The seats are priced at various prices depending on where you want to be seated. Seats on the balcony are very reasonably priced and quite comfortable with good sight lines for most of the stage.

Quaint theatre
May 2018 • Couples
We drove to Grand Junction for a show at the Avalon Theatre. It did not disappoint. It is a quaint theatre & has a nice atmosphere. The location of the bathrooms was a bit odd (basement), but otherwise it was really nice. The security took a while to process everyone, so I would suggest getting to the show early.

Great venue!
Nov 2017 • Couples
The Avalon is a recently refurbished theatre right downtown. It's a cozy venue with great acoustics and good sight lines from almost every seat. The seats are not super comfortable, so I'd probably avoid any event longer than a few hours. We recently saw Big Head Todd here..pro tip: try to get seats in the first row of the balcony. Great view of the stage!

Indies at the Avalon
Sep 2017 • Couples
It's great to have the Avalon bring back independent / foreign films. It would be more enjoyable and save energy if they didn't have the thermostat set so low. Everyone was needing heavy sweaters to be somewhat comfortable during the film. Another issue, the police need to have a presence on Main street after dark.

Great community resource
Aug 2017 • Couples
We've attended concerts and movies, even church services years ago, at the Avalon. Not as comfortable for watching movies as the commercial theaters, yet the ambiance is far more friendly. The recent upgrades and expansion have made this venue even more versatile.

Only negative is how little the Avalon is really used by the community.

A local treasure hosting fun events
Nov 2016 • Solo
This performing arts venue was built in the 1920s and reopened in 2014 after a massive renovation.

We saw Don McLean here and it was a lovely place for a concert. It was large enough for the sound to have a great quality and small enough to be intimate.

We also went to the opening of Trumbo - a movie about local son, Dalton Trumbo - who was extremely controversial here (he was blacklisted during the McCarthy era). That was also an amazing event - the author of the book and some of the Trumbo family attended.

What this means to me is that the Avalon can bring in some big acts and movies. They also sponsor a Dinner and a Movie night where a receipt from a downtown restaurant will get you in to a movie for a very reduced price.

It is a wonderful anchor for Main Street and I look forward to more events at this glamorous venue.

Recently remodeled beautiful venue. Movies, concerts, comedians, plays... you name it. Nice to have a glass of wine or a beer while watching a movie as well! Tuesday night Dinner and a Movie (free entrance with proof of dinner downtown).

Movie viewing good experience
Dec 2015 • Couples
Saw a movie at the Avalon. Was a good value at only $6. The sound has not extremely load as it is at many theaters. Also no previews. I like previews but they get redundant if you go to a few movies on the same timeframe and they go one for ever. Please not commercials. Just the movie you paid to see. No lines, good parking, nice clean restrooms. Overall a great experience. Also I didn't use it but they do have a concession stand with popcorn and the like. I would definitely go again.
