Overview
More
The White River Museum is housed in two of the log buildings from the 1880's that served as officer's quarters of the federal troops stationed in Meeker, as a result of the Meeker Massacre in 1879 and the infamous Milk Creek Battle, the last Indian Tribe/U.S.Army battle in America. Named one of the last curio museums in Colorado, it is filled with collections ranging from the 1880's to the 1950's. White River Museum is a good resource for family information from the region. Tour groups welcome. Open daily year round (except for Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day). Admission FREE, donations appreciated.

It is housed in the old army barracks and the host was glad to let us into the other building to see the barracks there. There is a mural of the battle of meeker there.

This museum is housed in building originally part of the fort located in this area. Lots of unique antique items. Also one building showing the history of a major Indian/Calvary battle. Not to be missed if you are in the area.

I was told about this place by a waitress in the local espresso shop, who likes museums like I do and enjoyed her school field trips as a child. She highly recommended it, and I can't disagree. The volunteer docent was very helpful, even digging...More

This little place is really interesting. Noticed it while trying to find the post office. Learned a lot about the lodge we were headed to - Trappers Lake Lodge and the area. Worth the stop.

We are pleased how you describe our museum: "a sense of family." Our goal is to tell the story of the old west - both our Ute Indian friends and the early pioneers.
