This has been a favorite family stop on the drive from Denver to Montrose for about 50 years. Personally, it's the mountain air and view that I like but there is also a classic tourist gift shop with clean bathrooms and snacks.

Monarch pass is one of the places to cross the continental divide. It's quite scenic, if you can, plan to take your time and look at the scenery. There is a shop and a tram ride at Monarch Crest at the top, the shop is...More

As you go over the pass, you might want to stop at Monarch Crest. It is a tourist gift shop, but take the tram to the top of the mountain. The views are wonderful, and it was amazing how far you could see. The people...More

We drove over Monarch Pass on our way from Salida to Crested Butte. The pass provided an outstanding view of the Sawatch Range plus intermittent patches of wildflowers and stands of aspen trees. The 11,000 plus foot summit is not to be missed.

We had no expectations of Monarch Pass — it just happened to be the most efficient route for us. However, the ride up to the pass from the south was breathtaking and the views at the top were wonderful. You should definitely stop off at...More

My son and I rode Moutain Bikes From Monarch Pass to Marshall Pass and then down to Poncho Springs. The views were fantastic. Pack enough snacks and water and be sure to bring warm layers of clothes. I would also suggest getting an early start...More
