It was a little rough. Scary. We don't hike much but I consider myself to have good coordination & decent stamina for a 52 year old. Well worth the views and personal achievement felt upon finishing. We didn't do the entire perimeter. We conquered Box Canyon area. And then the so called beginning near the Visitors Center. Be sure to... More

This trail was very difficult to follow on the trail map and I considered the trail to be moderate to difficult for seniors. The views were spectacular.

This was a beautiful hike and I highly recommend it. The only reason I didn't give it a rating of 5, is because even with the map provided in the city brochure, there were a few places where we weren't sure we were on the right trail. This hike has a mix of up and down trails, some hugging the... More

This trail is probably fun for those who aren't afraid of heights and narrow trails along a mountain edge. We didn't go through the visitor's center but found out about the trail from our hotel hostess. In all fairness though, I should have read the trip advisor reviews (which I usually do, but didn't for some reason this time). There... More

We took County Road 26A into the San Juan Mountains. We started on a trailhead outside Ouray. We drove a small Jeep Compass 4 wheel drive with low clearance. We went up almost to where the tree line ended. It was incredible. We actually saw some regular cars driving on this road. Road is well maintained gravel but can be... More

We've enjoyed hiking the Perimeter Trail over several trips to Ouray. The trail is walking accessible from anywhere in town, and if you can't make the full loop you can easily depart the trail and head back into town.

We have hiked almost all of this trail system. Some parts are very steep but manageable. Great view of the town.

We really enjoyed this. It was tough at the start (clockwise from the visitor centre) but the rest was pretty standard. Great views of the town.

If your not in perfect shape but want to do a little hiking, the Perimeter Trail is a great choice. The trail is accessible from several spots in town and leads you past both Cascade and Box Canyon Falls. The views you'll get from the trail are spectacular and the best you'll get without making a real commitment to scaling... More

We started off across from the visitor's center. It was immediately a steep hike up which left us wondering if it would be that steep the entire distance. We took our time and stopped when necessary to catch our breath and to take pictures of the abundant photo ops!!! Some of the best pictures of our trip. We took 6... More
