Lots of History!!

Would highly recommend stopping by the Ouray Historical Museum! It's full of history and is located in the old hospital. Walking thru I had to wonder if it was haunted!!

Maybe the best small museum I've seen. This three-story structure used to be the town hospital. The woman at the entrance desk told us she was born there. From the time you walk in, nicely arranged and labeled exhibits appear - one after another. An amazing variety - old dentist office, hospital room, black-light mineral display, memorabilia from the town... More

The outlay Museum was very informative and full of information about the area. The lady working the desk was very friendly.

This museum is well worth visiting, as it houses many interesting artifacts that tell a story of early Ouray, a mining area of Colorado. One such is an exhibit concerning The Hope Diamond (not the actual diamond on display) and Evalyn Walsh McLean. This was a wedding present given by her father who earned great sums of money from a... Upon entering the museum we met a very nice lady that was born in this very building in 1950. We paid our entry fee and did a self tour of the three stories. We found every vignette to be very informative and with so many pictures and antiquities it made the era of the town and surrounding areas come to... More

If you need to do something on a rainy day this is a great place to go to wait for the weather to clear. Wonderful things to see. My favorite part was looking at all the Rocks and Minerals.

It's a bit hoarder-y, but it was a very informative visit with tons of cool stuff. It's just all quite crammed in. Being unfamiliar with the area/its history, it was a great day 1 stop.

This museum is located in a building that used to be a hospital. Entrance fee is $7pp, less for kids. There are three floors. The basement is a replica of a mine and has photos of many of the mines in the area, and geology; it is very well done. The ground floor has local photos of families, schools, post... More

If you have kids and don't want it to be a beating, you can move through in an hour and a half or so and hit the high points. If you have the time, spend a little longer. There is enough in here that you would probably notice new things on a second trip. It's definitely worth a stop and... More

I love history and so when we decided to do this museum I was skeptical at first, not sure with it being a tiny town, but I was surprised! This museum had so much history and information about the entire area! I absolutely loved it and I loved how they have preserved the history and the original layout of the... More
