Visiting bojo river was one of the highlights in our midwestern Cebu family trip this Christmas. Price is a bit high though as fee per person is 400 for river tour only while if you want to include lunch it will be 750. But it’s run by the locals in the community so in a way you are also helping. An orientation is given before the start of the tour and the river has been maintained clean and green. Truly a not-to-miss area/activity when you are in southwest part of Cebu!

Loved the walk to the river from the entrance. Beautiful and lush trees and plants. Very informative guide. Nice that this nature preserve is well taken care of. A good half trip from Cebu!

We visited this place 20MAR2016. We thought that it would be just fine to visit the place as "walk-ins". But no it was not. We got into this place and was told that we really have to register in their office down town (which is a bit far from the place). We did not take the chance to go inside and also for the tour because we were thinking that it would be a waste of time to go back downhill just to register.
We've heard their price for the tour alone, 400+ or you can go up to 600+ Php for the tour plus the organic meal..(which is really expensive for me). And as for the tour itself, the tour was just very short (as what i've heard from a friend) but it has great view especially at the lagoon where you guys are allowed to swim..It looks like a mini Thailand / Palawan here in Cebu. FYI: You need to ride this little bangka for some couple of minutes.
So it's really up to you if you wanna go and try this thing.

Our group availed of the Bojo river cruise package which includes several other tours plus meals for a very reasonable price.
Upon arrival, we were welcomed by several folks who also adorned us with leis. They then proceeded to guide us towards the Bojo River which was around 230 meters away from the roadside. AND upon reaching the riverside, we were met by singing and dancing folks who serenaded us. We felt like VIPs!
After dancing, we rested inside a cottage where we were served with a gumamela-decorated BUKO JUICE. There was a briefing about our ecotour, and the community's history. For those who will participate in the snorkeling, we were also taught on how to use the snorkels and other swimming gears, as well as how to navigate thru the waters.
The Eco-Tour
After munching on our snacks, and listening to the briefing, we headed towards the dock where our respective boats and lifevests were waiting for us. Indeed, the river was full of a variety of mangroves, the local and scientific names of which are mastered by our guides. The latter also shared the history, while squeezing in some folklore and legends about the place.
Upon reaching the junction, we were met by around 5-7 trained divers who guided us for our 20-30 minutes snorkeling to the marine sanctuary which was around 100 meters deep. It was such a fun adventure especially since some of us were first timers and not good swimmers. Nevertheless, we felt safe since there was almost a 1:1 ratio between the snorkelers and the guides. The only regret we had was that we forgot to bring an underwater camera with us and so weren't able to take pictures of the beautiful and colorful corals and fishes.
And thus, I greatly advise those who are planning to visit Bojo River, to also snorkel in the Bonbon marine sanctuary. I recommend this even to first timers not only because of the lifevests but also because of their highly trained and experienced guides. I've tried snorkeling in Boracay before but it wasn't really a pleasant experience since we were left to fend for ourselves, and the corals were unhealthy and many were even dead. So unlike the situation in the Bonbon Marine Sanctuary where a variety of corals abound, plus we were also provided with complete gears (including flippers!) and a briefing on how to wear them properly.
But Wait, There's More!
After the Bojo River Cruise and The Bonbon Marine Sanctuary Snorkeling, we were treated to a very sumptuous native lunch. We also tasted for the first time their specialty drink made from camote. It was reddish in color and really good! We thought it was ice tea until we were informed that it was not. Wow, that was really creative and resourceful!
Honestly speaking, I got quite full and sleepy afterwards. On the other hand, my companions were busy learning weaving since it was part of their itinerary to teach us how to do it. They were fast learners too. ^_^

If you want a short day tour in Cebu in the midst of nature, this is a great place to go. It's not just for foreigners, it is also a wonderful experience for locals.
It is the only tour run by the community of fisherfolk and local people of Aloguinsan.
It's advisable to book ahead so that you can enjoy prepared lunch as part of the tour. Our guide at the time of our tour was Rudney, the head of the community organization. He advised us to go to Aloguinsan via Carcar. It was a shorter route compared to via Toledo. We arrived in Aloguinsan at around two hours after departing from the city. We met Rudney at the baluarte park near the municipal hall and he toured us around the park, where the centerpiece was the ruined Spanish watchtower.
After that we went to the farmhouse where we were treated with some refreshments. It wasn't part of the regular package but the Aloguinsan mayor graciously invited us to drop by the farmhouse because we happened to be there at the time the were launching the cruise with new packages.
Then off we went to the river cruise. We were met by some women who gave us leis and after a short trek we arrived at the start of the cruise. A group of women and men serenaded us with Cebuano folk songs like "Rosas Pandan." You can join them if you know the song ;) We did.
After that we went on the cruise after an initial orientation about their organization as well their work on mangrove conservation. During the cruise, our guide showed us the many species of mangrove...then near the mouth of the river...where sea meets the river we had our swim. It is a great spot for swimming, the water is so pristine...spend some time here and just enjoy the beauty of nature.
When we got back they had lunch prepared for us, as well as buko juice. The lunch is delicious, especially the humba and ampalaya salad. After lunch, some of the folks taught us how to weave using banig (mat) and also puso making (coconut leaf fronds woven and shaped like a heart (puso) where rice grains are then placed and cooked). We dozed for awhile before going back to the city.
Overall it was a great day tour and a good introduction to Cebuano culture aside from going back to nature.
If you decide to go, please inquire about their packages because you can include going to the beach as part of the river cruise also as well as other activities.

Very informative. Best eco torism spot. The place was very relaxing. Nature lovers gonna love this place. If you visit this place you dont just enjoy the nature, but you will also help many locals since the money you will pay for the tour will be shared by everyone in their community. Just a tip, if you want to visit Bojo river first, you must call their office to know if its low tide or high tide. Or ask any suggestion for your convenience during your trip, 469-9042

It takes about 3 hours by car from Shangri La Mactan. We have to walk about 236 meters from car park to the guest house. The trip is too short (about 1,4 KM) but the view is good with some mangrove tree collections especially the view at estuary. The tour guide is so friendly and explain the mangrove collection clearly. Don't worry about safety because they give you live jacket before riding the boat. You can swim at the estuary (about 7 m deep) or walk on the boardwalk to watch birds and mangrove closely. But the view is not as good as I imagine when I saw the brochure that I got from the hotel. After all its better if you booked first because there is no trip (boating) the water depth is only about 10 cm in low tide.

In ever trip, safety and security is an utmost concern for travellers. I can say i felt a 100 percent safe and secure when were there. People are courteous and respectful. Its very affordable. I brought my workmates 7 of us yet the cost was minimal. Aloguinsan just placed itself on the map of quality destinations.

It is very well kept and clean. Its one of the few tourist spots that is not being currently exploited to its fullest yet, to attract more tourists to this part of the south of Cebu. We went for a guided tour of the river and it was fun and interesting for the kids. It is still very expensive just like all the other tourist attractions in the area. I don't know where they base their fees from because i feel that the charges are ridiculous. I am from Cebu and I can't believe we charge this much even for locals. Crazy!
