During the Steamboat Winter Carnival, an annual event in February every year, many activities take place at this hill or close by. The Saturday night fireworks show is beyond compare, preceded by skiers skiing and jumping their way down the hill. They all are well lit up and show their skills including ski jumping, and tricks on snow boards and... More

We love to stay downtown Steamboat. In the winter we can walk over to the trails at Howelsen for a quick skate ski workout. In the summer it is the center of Steamboats trail system.

The luge is a fun activity for kids of all ages... It was an activity that everyone looked forward to...ski lift up and luge down. Good times! It is a little pricey, so you will want to limit how many runs you are taking. Also, be mindful of the weather because it will be shut down if conditions are not... More

For you city folk who can't do the mile up Hanging Lake, try this. Very doable, and, when you get to the top, great view.

You probably won't spend all day here but it's a nice add-on if you're already biking the Yampa river core trail or tubing the river plus it's close to downtown.

We did 3 runs down the Alpine Slide. Overall it was a lot of fun and the kids want to go back. Pretty darn $$$$$ for what you get, but you are in Steamboat and they gotcha. Views from the top are great as well.

My wife & I first visited Howelson Hill several years ago. we were up at the top looking around when I noticed a jumper preparing to jump. I couldn't believe my eyes when I realized it was "Eddie the Eagle"! For those of you who don't follow ski jumping, he was the infamous British ski jumper who won the hearts... More

Great fun in the summer with the family. Plenty to do for the adults and kids. The alpine coaster was probably out favorite!

This review is for the nordic ski area at Howelsen. There is a long step hill up out of the main area to get up higher, but after that there were fewer big steep hills than I anticipated. Lots of rolling hills/trails; one or two downhills that if it was icy it would be a bit crazy. Loved the views... More

Howelsen Ski Area is home of Tubing Steamboat. The tubing area has two lanes where a maximum of two tubes can ride down each lane at a time. A tube holds a single person. Your booking is good for one hour of tubing. The group is rather large and feels a little crowded at times. A magic carpet takes you... More
