The cliff dwellings at the Ute Mt. Tribal Park are a true find. See Ute wall paintings and petroglyphs as they were, and take your time: this secluded site gets far less visitors than Mesa Verde.

Awesome day visiting sites in the Ute Mt Tribal Park. Make sure you take the full day tour. The morning 1/2 looks at rock paintings and touring surface sites. But the afternoon part tours 4 different cliff dwellings which are extremely well preserved. Compared to...More

Morning 1/2 day tour with a friend from out of state. Docent was very knowledgeable. Just remember to take your time with the climbing if you are not accustomed to the higher elevations and hydrate. It was June and not quite into summer but still,...More

Take the full-day tour. It includes a drive through tribal lands, insight into the meaning of the pictographs and petroglyphs, climbing around in the dwellings, and a real education into the lives of the ancient Puebloans and the Utes, who have lived in the canyons...More

To go into the reservation and see the ancient dwellings a guide is required and later you can see why. Ricky was our guide and took us back in to the world of the ancient ones. We recommend you pay extra and travel with the...More

Though they don’t have any slick online system for booking, we phoned and left a vm and waited about a day for contact. After confirmation (no payment up front) we showed up for our half day tour and were politely greeted by Ricky. It wasn’t...More

Gerald took us on a hiking tour of the Ute Mountain Tribal Park with a detailed culture history of the ancient Pueblo people, where and how they lived from 500-1,400 AD, and how his tribe interfaced with the people who lived on what is now...More

This is what Mesa Verde looked like before Europeans restored it. Ruins show the handprints of the people who plastered them a thousand years ago. The park landscape is almost completely untouched except for the roads, and even those are unobtrusive. The quiet is like...More

Mesa Verde is great, but it's overcrowded and it's maintained. For a real taste of what Ute land is, book a tour with the Ute. You'll see untouched sites, hear about the culture and history from a tribal member, and get a real hiking workout....More

I don't want to drag this out, so I'll say this: My husband and I visited Mesa Verde the day before, and it does have amazing dwellings to see..... from a distance (understandably so if you want to preserve them). You could take a tour...More

Yes, they are a bit hard to find. But they are in a modest building at the NW corner of the junction of US491 & US160 in the 'shadow' of Chimney Rock. It shows as towac visitor center on google maps.
