Totally different than the Molly Kathleen, this is basically an open gravel pit that covers the entire top of a mountain. Nowhere near as fun as the MK, it is nevertheless very educational and well worth the price. I agree that most young people would not be interested. A lot of the people on my tour were professionally involved in... More

If you are at all interested in mining, gold and how the gold rush in Colorado started this is the tour for you. Children need to be of an age where this would be of interest or other wise they detract from the guilds description. You will travel thru all phases of the mining operation including going deep into the... More

Excellent if you are into learning and observing how current pit mining for gold takes place. Impressive massive operation with huge equipment used to move and grind a mountain and subsequently chemically remove gold from the ground rocks. Not an attraction for ecotourists or small children. More along the lines of an industrial factory tour in an active factory with... More

Warning! You need to make advanced reservations, which I did not. Fortunately for me, someone who had reservations didn't make it so I was able to get a seat at the last moment. The tour is provided by CC&V mine personnel who, I believe, donate the cheap $7.50 fee to the Victor Lowell Thomas Museum where the tour starts and... More

This tour is well worth it, and very informative. Also the money for the tour goes to the Victor muesem not the mining company FYI. I've been on underground mine tours before and this was a great addition. Our tour guide Robin knew everything about the mine and was a fantastic wealth of knowledge. It was a lot of fun... More

Roger Mitchell was our tour guide and he was very knowledgeable about the mine. It makes you feel like you are hands on with the mine and you got a behind the scenes look at the place. Very well suited for kids but make sure to keep an eye on them because you are very close to working machines! Excellent... More

This tour is very educational and interesting. I do not think it is a good fit for smaller children. Age wise I feel it is best suited for Pre-Teen and up, as it is a good 2 hour tour. You do get to see lots of mining action. Our tour guide was very good at answering questions and giving lots... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of this open pit gold mine. Even if you have been on previous underground tours you will see that this is a completely different operation. We found the extraction and leaching process fascinating and being so close to the enormous loaders and haulers makes this tour come to life. Our guide, Rod, was excellent and... More

We had a great tour guide. Semi-retired worker from the mine, worked there for 32 years. He had so much knowledge of the mine. He took his time and answered all the questions we had. They donate the money from the tour back to the museum. The tour guides statement: we are miners not in the tourist business. Nice to... More

This is a historic old Gold Mining town...well worth the visit as time takes it toll on this piece of history. Rustic, struggling to stay alive. Some good antique shopping to be done here.
