A Modern Museum with Interesting Displays and a Cafe
We followed the signs to the museum cafe and enjoyed a tour of the museum with its displays of Isle of Cumbrae's history. Displays range from burial kists to the days of smuggling and the 'George' revenue cutter. The cafe was ideal with good food and additional outside seating. The menu was on the wall and they do breakfasts.

    Lovely Cafe
Visited here early October. Lovely cafe with a museum and history of Millport. The food was delicious, warm, quick service and very reasonably priced. They also recommend a hire bike shop Mapes who are cheaper than the other hire shop. Other cafes are quite small. This is nice and spacious and nice things for kids to see. Would come again for the baked potato.

So impressed first day, we went back again next day.
A short break in Millport with lunches and dining out to avoid cooking. The Garrison was recommended by a neighbour so we went there first. Glad we did. Menu is so extensive that it is painted all around the walls ! The soup and sandwich combo was very reasonable and served quickly by the volunteer staff who were all friendly. The soups were hot, filling and delicious and the sandwiches on fresh brown or white bread also excellent.

    Motorhome Aire
Another visit to this great little site right in the middle of town. Only a ten minute ferry ride gets you away from the hustle and bustle of the mainland to the peace and tranquility of the Island. Stayed 31/5/24 for a few nights and as before we had a great few day's, site is well kept, staff are ultra friendly, yards from the beach, shop's, resteraunt and bars. Only thing is it doesn't have a toilet or shower block, you are free to use the toilets in the Garrison during opening hours. Maybe in the future they will add the toilet/shower block. We will be back.

We stayed on the motorhome aire for 4 night, only booked 2 but extended the stay as it was so lovely. Pitches with hook up, CDP, grey waste and fresh water. Couldn't fault anything on site, museum was informative, cafe was lovely, craft shops a great addition.

It's a small museum, but you will learn a lot about the history of the island and the town of Millport. From the Vikings to today, they have wonderful artifacts.

Lovely overnight parking in our motorhome. No toilets or showers but good facilities for motorhome services. We looked around the exhibition in the foyer of the cafe and then had a lovely breakfast. Would recommend.

Garrison House is an attractive building on the sea front overlooking the bay. There is a very good small museum on the ground floor covering the history of Millport. The cafe is good (eat in or out in the courtyard) and it has excellent toilets too.

Worth a visit and it's free. The seats in the sunken garden in front of the building are a great place to drop out.

Like any attraction on Cumbrae, Garrison House is worth visiting as there isn't much else to see. Sitting right on the main street it offers an excellent photo opportunity. The building itself is nice and has a museum and cafe. The sunken garden is lovely and there's also a model railway in the grounds.
