A gem in the city

The Cathedral is a must see for all those of faith. The stained glass windows, lovely organ and general feel is fantastic. You will come away feeling peaceful and refreshed.

We were lucky enough to attend Mass at the Cathedral during a recent stay. The windows alone were worth the trip. The congregation is a mix of ethnicities and races. Although the space is large, the warmth of the people fills this magnificent place, as does the pipe organ and song.

From the outside, it looks like a concrete monstrosity. The original cathedral burned to the ground, so they rebuilt using concrete to lessen the potential for a catastrophic fire. Inside, you will be greeted by an expansive interior and beautiful stained glass windows that give the cathedral a very light and airy feeling, in contrast to the thick cement walls.... More

This is the largest cathedral in the state of Connecticut so if you fancy yourself an enthusiast, it's a "must see". The stained glass was designed in the 60s after a fire destroyed the original cathedral. The designs are so different and unique it's incredible. The church is expansive and the light is amazing with all the stained glass natural... More

This church is in downtown Hartford. On its face, it is obelisk in nature. The front might as well be a concrete wall. But peer to the sides, sneak a peak inside and you will revel in the inspiring and beautiful design of this church. It's worth the visit.

This church was built to replace the grand old St. Joseph's Cathedral which burned down in 1956. The fire is worth Googling as it was headline news around the world with incredible photos of the destruction. The cement was I believe an overreaction to the tinderbox nature of the old cathedral which burned for quite some time and injuring ten... More

This is a beautiful spot. I was confirmed there- there is plenty of space and it's gorgeous - from the pews, to the windows, to the alter. Outside is very nice too - modern. Enjoy a visit!

This building was created in 1962 upon the site of the former cathedral that had burned down. My wife and I were married there, graduated from Northwest Catholic HS there, christened our oldest daughter there, and had the funeral for my Father there. It's majestic.

I was surprised by the communistic design of the building and the stained glass windows. But the church was beautiful. The organ player was there too playing so it made the whole trip feel cool.
