The shops, the crafts, the whaling ship were a delight to visit. Luckily in early Dec., not much of a crowd so we had time to talk with the docents, who were all very knowledgeable.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 December 2023

The history of this ship and the whaling industry is fascinating. The boat itself has been restored and in very good condition to the point that it is able to still sail around. There was a docent on the ship to answer questions and we had quite a few. The whole ship is accessible and is really worth the time to visit to get a good idea about the conditions that were endured for this industryVisited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 22 January 2024

The Charles W. Morgen is a beautifully restored 19th Century American whaling ship, the very last existing example of a once common type of ship. Both the deck of the ship and the crew quarters below it are available to tour; you can see both how the crew lived on its lengthy voyages and how each whale was processed into whale oil onboard. The Morgen was restored just a few years ago (it can now sail to local ports), so everything is is good condition. An interesting way to see a lifestyle and industry once important to American history.

Go below decks on this historic ship and you will be amazed that men spent years aboard it. The quarters are so cramped and the ceilings so low. It's wonderful that Mystic Seaport has kept this floating piece of history in such great condition--so much so that they actually took it out into the ocean a few years ago.

I toured this boat as a young child. Returning years later brought back memories of things past. Classic New England history is alive and well at the Charles W. Morgan. Highly recommend.

We toured the ship, Charles W. Morgan, during the Mystic Seaport Ice Festival. It was cold and windy, but we enjoyed the seaport experience. This ship is interesting because it is a real whaling ship. You can explore above and below decks on you own or listen to a docent explain the finer points of the ships history and life aboard.

Stopped by the Mystic Seaport and after paying a good bit of change for entrance, I expected something more. No guides, no information, nothing. Just walked around and the ship needed a story, an explanation, something to catch your attention. Very sad.

While at Mystic Seaport, we spend substantial time on board the Charles W. Morgan learning from a docent about the ship. He had sailed on the ship in 2014 when it sailed around parts of New England. Learning about the ship and its role in whaling, it's long productive life as a whaler compared to many whaling ships, etc. was very interesting. Try to go when it's not crowded and engage the docent in conversation. You will learn much!

Went on the 90 minute offseason vessel guided tour of the Seaport that included the Charles Morgan - the Seaport a Museum was closed when we visited. We got full access to the ship in a small 20 person tour group. We were able to go below deck and visit the entire second deck even going into the captain's salon which is usually off limits. We were taken back to a wonderful era of sailing and whaling. This ship has been restored to its original 1846 condition with a few modern improvements such as electricity. Access around the ship above deck is easy - Once you go below decks keep your eye on the low ceilings - I'm six feet tall and spent the entire time below decks stooped over.
Our tour guide was well informed, animated and funny. Both adults and kids would enjoy this activity.

Planning on being in the area the weekend of the festival. What is the typical temperature and do you have any changes in your leaves that early? Is it jacket weather? We are from the south and are use to hot temps.

we visited several years ago and found ourselves at a glorious food festival. with samples offered from local restaurants and a beer tent with live entertainment. Does this still occur? I think it was around Labor Day weekend?

When will the Charles W. Morgan be in Mystic CN. in 2015
Written 28 February 2015
Far as I know, it's always there. We went in October of 2014 and it was so beautiful there, plus you get to see all the fall colors. Not as crowded as summertime when everyone is on vacation with their families. TIP: We went one week before the "official" fall foliage time -- not as many tourists and colors are wonderful everywhere. ***Make sure you go into the town also, down the road and over a draw bridge.
