Well worth a visit. Located on the banks of the Thames River with wonderful views of Long Island Sound and Electric Boat. Great place to walk and relax. An imposing fortress with a long history. Bring your camera, dog on a leash and enjoy. The actual Fort is closed after Labor Day but is still open for viewing from the... More

The fort was closed for the season but were able to walk around the grounds. The fort is still intact and the area around the fort is a nice little walk.

This is a Revolutionary War fort rebuilt in the 1800s that served several different purposes until the late 1900s. The fort is well preserved and the museum has a good video and lot of great exhibits with interesting details depicting the events tied to the timeline of the fort. The views of New London Harbor and the river are spectacular.... More

A quiet place to visit, walk or picnic. See the inside of the fort for a small fee. Outside access is free.

Learning about the history of the fort was very interesting -from Revolutionary era through cold war it. It seems to be a place that was always a little bit behind the curve and underutilized or perhaps a bit of a boondoggle, but the massive stone fort is impressive and commands a fine view. The museum was compact but fun in... More

We stopped the week after labor day and was disappointed because they are closed after labor day. Really? A state Park closed after a holiday? Come on CT you can do better. The walk and views are spectacular but we would have loved to tour the fort as well. Oh well, maybe next time

So glad this is not a condo area or fancy homes on the river. Perfect for history buffs and those that want to enjoy fishing, viewing and relaxing w/o spending $

I took my parents to the fort and the museum in July; the museum is just the right size to be comprehensive without being too exhausting, and it was nice to walk through the fort after reading all about its history. I wouldn't take a toddler to the museum, but there is a scavenger hunt suitable for young children (the... More

This is just based on a chance visit to the fort, we didn't go into the visitors' center which is bound to be more educational in nature and providing you the historical background on why it was built here in the first place, its importance and how it was used. Something I knew a little about already. I look forward... More
