While visiting Famagusta area, a visit to this old castle is a must. If the sky is clear, you can see qlmost all of north east part of the island. Breathtaking views.

Had a great morning climbing this mountain today, Not as steep as Buffavento but still great fun for the family. Loved the views where you can see far and wide towards Famagusta and Karpaz. Was only 10tl so a bargain for a fab sunny morning

My friends and I went on a slight hike up to the top of the castle. The views were amazing and extremely scenic. The bottom of the castle has a picnic area where we did a bbq. Definitely recommend this for a day out picnic/hike

Wow!
Nov 2019
Absolutely stupendous views to the sea on two sides, fantatsic views sown across the plains to Borgaz and Famagusta. Be brave - drive up from Borgaz and even more brave to drive back down this narrow winding single track to the plains! Or take the easy way back down, or up from the north up the tarmaced road. Whatever, it is a stupendous view. How on earth did they build all those centuries ago? No helicopters in those days, Fantastic. .

Amazing view
Sep 2019
The road from Famagusta to the castle is a challenge, it was a small not very well maintained, but with beautiful views. If you drive slow it's not a problem. The castle is really nice and the view you have there is amazing. Going back I took the road to Kyrenia, that was much better to drive on.

Worth a visit for the views
Sep 2019 • Couples
We drove to the castle from the north on a good tarmac road, winding and climbing through the mountains, only the last 3km is single track but luckily we didn’t meet any other traffic. The entrance fee is 7Tl per person but there wasn’t anyone there to collect the fee when we arrived and we had the castle all to ourselves.
There are no facilities there apart from toilet cubicles (not the nicest but adequate) so take water, sun protection and good sturdy footwear and enjoy exploring.
Sadly it was a bit overcast when we visited but the views were still fabulous, definitely worth the climb.

Just do it, at sunset
Aug 2019
A great drive up to this venue enjoyed in both directions through the hilly Cypriot countryside. Walk to the very top, it is worth it and at sunset it is magical. The day we went we were the only people there and young kids will love it, just keep an eye on them!

From the main road, it was easy to find. Roads are typical mountain ones.. very narrow and not very well maintained!
Parking outside the castle 🏰 costs 7tl each to get in. Very interesting. Lots to look at and the views!! Wow! Absolutely breathtaking ❤️ well worth a visit if castles are your thing!

Jump in your hire car and just enjoy the journey to Kantara. To truly get to know abd experience the best of North Cyprus, you really need to venture out and discover these truly stunning places. Kantara feels like its off the beaten track but its a super easy drive. I recommend to park at the village centre and walk to the castle in order to experience the pleasure and beauty of this area. Gorgeous scenery and so tranquil. A great place to stop for a picnic.
