This lake is for hard-core partiers--there's even a little island where people can just drink all day in the water--and brave, if foolhardy, water skiers and their drivers. Weekends are particularly wild. If this is your scene, you'll love it.

Great landscape, just floating along on the river. Be cautious on the sun and don't forget your sunscreen. Overall, just a nice smooth day.

As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by a man (guess he worked there) asking if we could be helped. He said its private property and we couldn't be there. I guess we'll have to find another place to enjoy the sunny weather....More

I spent a wonderful SAturday on Lake Zoar! It was very busy with many boats and families tubing, but there were also kayakers and people just swimming in the very Refershing water. It was also interesting to see a patrol boat out ,keeping an eye...More

Beautiful lake created by a dam built about 1919, called the Stevenson Dam. Great for cruising, with miles of wooded shoreline. Good fishing for bass and panfish, too. Eichler's Cove Marina in Newtown has a boat ramp and docks, as well as picnic tables.

The lake is formed by a dam and as such the water quality depends on whether the dam owners allow enough water to exit the impound to keep the algae under control. Whether they do or not depends on the demand for electricity which is...More

While I've enjoyed time out on Lake Zoar boating and fishing, and fishing from shore, for over 30 years.....I have to say that the fishing has never been very fulfilling. The lake was formed after the hydroelectric dams were built, flooding the original Housatonic River...More

A hidden gem of a lake, about 80% of the shoreline is forest. Try visiting Kettletown State Park or the State boat launch in Southbury

Visited this lake in July of 2014 from Wisconsin and felt right at home. Has a great up north vibe and the people are very friendly. We enjoyed time out on the sand bar!

If you're a Newtown ressident you can park at Eichler Park which is off Rt. 33 above the dam. If you live in Southbury they have a park on Zoar off 84 exit12. There is also a park open to all at the base of the dam in... More
