I never appreciated the Slater Memorial Museum when I was in high school but to walk through it recently made me realize how special it is with copies of historical (ancient) sculptures allows many to see these pieces without traveling to Rome or Greece. What a gift to the community.

Even though I have lived in this area for years I had never been to the museum until recently. I first went to see the "John Meyers" exhibit as I had many of the clothes in the past. My husband went to NFA so had been to the museum and brought me to see the statues. I never would have... More

We were visiting Slater Memorial Museum today specifically for the exhibit of CT Women Artists. So many talented artists from all over the country in a beautiful space! The Art gallery is gorgeous and the permanent collection is quite impressive, from the plaster cast collection of ancient statues to African, Middle Eastern and New England history and Art. The architecture... More

Be prepared to spend the afternoon in the museum. Famous statuary on the first floor and unique artifacts on the second.

Plaster casts of the great greek statues look like the real thing...and the collection of Netsuke is beautiful. The docents are very knowledgeable . ( esp Mrs Valace...she was great) It is an impressive space for its history and architecture. Could be a private museum tucked into the Vanderbilt estates instead of the Norwich free academy. Great for a rainy... More

I have not been to the Slater in many years. I knew there have been expansions and additions but I was still surprised. The range of exhibits and collections are varied and interesting. Local History, Casts (statutes) paintings, Asia, Africa, and so much more. This is a "Must See" attraction for everyone. If you live close by or just visiting... More

Visited the John Meyer exhibit with a friend. We grew up wearing these clothes that were Made in Norwich, CT. The museum has many great offerings and rotating exhibits. A must see place to go.
