I have been to the Avon many times over the years, and it has been an unfailingly good experience. They do a great job of selecting the films -- I do not see everything they show (and I've probably missed some good ones), but I'd say they nail it 80% of the time. The inside is "old", but in a... Just saw Moonlight there, and reminded me of the good old theatre days. Calm, comfortable and first rate, not Hwood blockbuster, films. Pleasant, artful experience, GSW

Theater tends to have higher quality films than the regular chain theaters. Great selection. Have interesting special themes, I.e. French film series.

The Avon is a charmed place. They run independent films, foreign films, great classics, and up to date quality movies. (Not the ones you will see at Redbox). The steps into the salon are well maintained and takes you back to an older, dainty era.

Lovely old time theater with unique film choices! Takes you back in time even though the movies are current.

In a world of Multiplex theaters with showing 15 movies that are all filled with cartoons, super heros, and vampires the Avon is an oasis in the movie desert. This theater has not changed a thing in forever. It is the way theaters were when Eisenhower was President. Yes, they have split into two screens, but the movies they show... More

The downtown location of the Avon Theater makes it a great place to grab a drink before a movie or plan to dine afterwards, all in walking distance. The old world charm of the theater is so much more inspiring than the new big box movie venues. The choice of movies at the Avon seems to have something for everyone.... More

Sandy and I see a lot of movies here. An eclectic mix of 1st run films is shown in each of its theatres. Comfortable seating, clean facilities,a friendly staff, ample parking nearby and the 272 Bedford St. address is located in a vibrant part of downtown Stamford. If this isn't enough to entice your patronage, the Avon often has a... More

The Avon theatre is our go-to spot for indy and art films. Memberships get you a reduced ticket price and there are very special perks for teachers. The Avon sponsors special events throughout the year, often screening films followed by guest speakers such as a principal actor or the film's director. The staff is always welcoming, treating everyone like part... More

I used to go to film in this theatre back in the 1950's and 60's when I grew up in Darien. The theatre closed down for many years, but was purchased and refurbished and opened as real independent art house. I go to this theatre a couple times a month to view American independent and also European films and also... More
