The Hobbiton Movie Set tour is an essential stop on the itinerary for all visitors travelling through New Zealand, offering an interesting and entertaining experience incorporating the famous film set as seen in The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit trilogies.

Fall in love with the Alexander family sheep and beef farm, just as acclaimed director Sir Peter Jackson did, as you journey through the village, with the mighty Kaimai Ranges towering in the distance. Your guide will then escort you around the set, showing you the intricate detailing, pointing out the most famous locations and explaining how the movie magic was made. You will be taken around the 12 acre set; past Hobbit holes, the Mill and into the famous Green Dragon™ Inn, where you can indulge in our exclusive, specially brewed beverages to conclude your own Middle-earth™ adventure.

We initially thought the tour cost was high but we found it well worth the stop. This is a treat if you are a LOTR / Hobbit fan but perhaps less so if you have not read the books or seen the movies. There are lots of references and jokes that you only get if you are familiar with the... More

Thanks to Bea and Andy, two excellent guides, we had a great tour and banquet. Not cheap, but you get to tour with only a small group of guests and eat a "proper hobbit feast". This is a must if you are a Lord of The Rings fan. We had one young lady on our tour who had even dressed... More

Efficiently run, interesting for all and stunning scenery. Book tickets, it is busy and the busy would be my key complaint. The size of each tour group is fine, but there are too many groups on the set at any one time. You constantly wait for the group in front to move on and getting photos without the crowds taking... Whilst accepting the uniqueness of the site, by Kiwi standards this was vastly overpriced and too commercialised. The admission price allegedly includes a FREE beverage at the Green Dragon Pub but at 79 dollars per head admission (no concessions for seniors) it really can hardly be classed as Free !. All in all a bit of a rip off, and... More

The whole experience exceeded our expectations. We had a great guide, very knowledgeable and friendly. The set itself was really impressive, the level of detail to achieve something so realistic just for a film takes a bit of believing. Had to keep reminding ourselves that it was not real. A particularly nice touch was that the beer at the end... More

After visiting, I want to live there too! Hobbiton the movie set was everything I hoped for and more. Our tour group made the trip to Hobbiton in the late afternoon. The drive through the countryside was beautiful, and my imagination was in overtime. The rolling hills looked as if there might be a hobbit hole in any of them!... More

Expensive and busy. Fans of the movie will enjoy the tour. Be prepared though you are not able to walk around the set and explore on your own. You have a guide with you and you are kept in a group. The guide we had was very informative and it was interesting to hear the back stories to making the... More

One of the best experience in NZ. 2 hours are passing by fast as you stroll down the Hobbiton. Lots of picture moments. However, it is tough to get a solo picture without ppl passing by as the paths are narrow. It is crowded. Must made online purchases 3 months prior especially in summer. If you are driving to Hobbiton,... More

If you're a Lord of the rings enthusiast it's a must to visit this place.... it's amazing how these structures are built and again if you're familiar with the movie scenes you can definitely imagine how it is like being part of it. It's also a great place to get some of the rare memorabilia....
