The Hobbiton Movie Set tour is an essential stop on the itinerary for all visitors travelling through New Zealand, offering an interesting and entertaining experience incorporating the famous film set as seen in The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit trilogies.

Fall in love with the Alexander family sheep and beef farm, just as acclaimed director Sir Peter Jackson did, as you journey through the village, with the mighty Kaimai Ranges towering in the distance. Your guide will then escort you around the set, showing you the intricate detailing, pointing out the most famous locations and explaining how the movie magic was made. You will be taken around the 12 acre set; past Hobbit holes, the Mill and into the famous Green Dragon™ Inn, where you can indulge in our exclusive, specially brewed beverages to conclude your own Middle-earth™ adventure.

Went on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Still enjoyed the tour (about 2 hours) and learning about how LOTR and the Hobbit series were made. At the end of the tour, complimentary beer or drink provided at The Green Dragon Tavern. After the visit, there is a strong desire to want to watch LOTR and Hobbit series again.

Heather was our tour guide when we went and she was great! Be forewarned that you need to stay with your tour guide and if you want to actually hear what they have to say, stay close to them! Our group was large and even though it was like herding cats, Heather did a great job getting everyone where they... More

Great to see. Such a pretty place. Nice cup of cider at the end. Quite expensive and it's a very strict tour. Our tour quide was like an army marshal and was quite rude and short of patience to the Asians on the tour. It's her job to act professionally no matter how annoying her tours are.

We had a fun experience and the scenery is magnificent. It took us 1.5 hours from Blackwater Rafting in Waitomo Caves. Recommend booking ahead of time which we were able to 4 hours before the tour. Hefty price - $79 per person (one beer included). We did feel like we were in the Hobbit world though! Tons to people there... More

We did an early morning tour and were thankful as there weren't too many people. Live in the moment take all the photos and enjoy the experience as you are walking around as once you have passed there is no time to go back. The guide was very friendly and certainly knew her subject.. kindly offering to take group photos.... More

Enter into this magical Hobbit kingdom and wander through the quaint villages and gardens. Beautifully landscaped and every detail is carefully placed. You will quickly recognized scenes from the movies. Guided tours are crowded, so get to the front of the tour to hear details about the set and movie. I also recommend choosing a mid-day tour either early morning... More

Being a LOTR fan I don't have enough words to summarize what an amazing experience this is. We drove down from Rotorua on one of the days and did the morning tour at the Hobbiton movie set. They take you out on a bus and straight to the shire. The shire incidentally has been built on a farm that was... More

We have visited as a group and have received a discount. We had to use our own vans to get to the Shire, the guide has leaded us. The site is magnificent, very realistic and you expect hobbits to show up any time. True excitement for the kids and a must do while visiting NZ.

Travelling from Rivendell to The Shire was a long trip but it was worth it. Never ever in my life seen so much hobbits running around and doing their daily chores. The night in the Green Dragon Inn was awesome with some fine Southfarting ale. All in all the tours are awesome kudos to our tour guide that day.

I would rank my experience a 4 star, but after thinking of the $120 I paid, and the small amount of time given at the location, I rank it a 3 star: However, it's an attraction nice to see once in a lifetime and then never go back. Pros: the place itself is beautiful, stunning gardens, lovely guide through The... More
