We toured the plantation this week and really enjoyed the experience. What a wonderful piece of history for the State of Delaware. The tour guide was open to our questions and was very accommodating. The house and grounds are a treasure.

Decided to check out some local points of interest. We arrived and were greeted by a woman in period clothes, who welcomed us and explained what there was to see. Watched a video which told of the Dickinson family. We then walked over to the house and was given a tour by another lady in period clothes, who knew everything... More

We decided to visit the Plantation for a quick trip back in time. It was educational and the tour guide gave us an education on how things were then. It was a great lil place to tour.

The film is helpful in putting Dickinson into history. Tour of his boyhood home is interesting, but not exciting.

Very interesting tour and well restored 18th century home. Several out buildings to investigate as well. Lovely site. And it's free.

Recently, I had an opportunity to participate in an evening "Lantern Tour" of the John Dickinson Plantation, near Dover, Delaware. The tour began with some introductions at the Visitor Center with light refreshments, followed by a wagon ride with tour guides around the plantation grounds and nocturnal life in the St. Jones River/estuary which borders the estate. There was some... More

As a previous reviewer stated, I think I missed something. My tour guide was nice and had some good factoids here and there. However, I feel like the video in the beginning was completely unnecessary, seeing as there is a guided tour. It should have been a quick 2-5 minute video with a high level overview and then everything else... More

After all the TA reviews that we had read prior to our visit here, we were really disappointed with our experience at this plantation. First, our group felt that there wasn't much thought put into the displays of the home. For example, in the living room, there was a chair that our tour guide said really didn't belong there, but... The home and property are well maintained. Everything appears authentic and the history of the John Dickinson comes alive while touring the home and gardens. Well worth visiting.

The John Dickinson Plantation is a great place to visit along with the Air Mobility Command Museum around the corner. Like the AMC Museum, admission is free, though donations are acceptable. As we had a three-year-old with us, we didn't end up taking the guided tour, so we only spent about thirty minutes touring the grounds by ourselves. Still, they... More
