October brings the Seafood Festival to Cedar Key each year. Hurricane Michael had little effect here, so the festival was a success. Plenty of crafts, art, and food vendors, something for everyone. Cedar Key in itself, is a great place to spend the day, or even a weekend, for boating, fishing, swimming, and more. Off the beaten path, it's worth the drive. Hope this helps with your next visit.

My New Year's resolution is to try new things. That being said, on a recent stay in Cedar Key, Florida, I decided it would be a good idea to kayak out to Atsena Otie, approximately 0.5 miles away from the "main land." I guess I should mention that I have NEVER kayaked before in my life. Mandy Davis, the owner of Hidden Coast Outdoors, tour guide and gourmet chef was wonderful! First of all, she was kind enough to take me out all by myself. Secondly, for a first-timer, I couldn't have asked for a better instructor. After giving me a basic lesson on the beach, we were off. Mandy stayed near my side the whole way as I struggled and learned to kayak by trial and error, and she was always quick with a word of help and/or encouragement. She was also very good at assessing my needs - did I want to kayak some more or pull into shore for lunch; did I want to kayak some more or head back to the main land. I should also mention that Mandy was gracious enough to offer me the use of her own kayak as it was easier to get in to and out of, as well as being easier to paddle. Mandy also knew a lot about the history of Cedar Key and Atsena Otie, local flora/fauna, seashells, and birds. I knew from exploring the website that lunch would be provided; however, I was totally unprepared for a gourmet feast made by Mandy herself. I can't say enough good things about my first-ever kayak experience. I wholeheartedly recommend a tour with Mandy Davis and Hidden Coast Outdoors for anyone spending a day in Cedar Key!

We learned about Mandy's amazing tours while we were staying at Sunset Isle RV Park in Cedar Key. We saw the flier and knew we just had to do the Atsena Otie Adventure. Mandy called right back after I left a message, and she was friendly and super helpful, asking about our kayaking experience and dietary needs. My husband is a finicky eater, but Mandy didn't get frustrated every time I kept saying, "Um, no, he doesn't eat that." She ultimately came up with a Mexican feast that was fantastic. Everything about this adventure was carefree and fun. We met Mandy at the local gas station, and easily followed her to the beach where we launched the kayaks. Mike and I had a two-person boat. Mandy gave terrific instructions, and we were off! All along the way, Mandy shared her expert knowledge of the area. Aside from being an excellent guide, Mandy added delightful little touches to the trip, like bringing along supplies to make headstone rubbings at the cemetery on the island and serving seltzer and OJ at lunch, which gave the meal a touch of elegance. We had a great time on our Atsena Otie tour with Mandy, and when we're back in Cedar Key again, we're going to take her other tours - like hiking and biking. Thanks, Mandy!

Mandy Davis, owner of Hidden Coast Outdoors, provided my wife and me with a lovely and informative tour of Atsena Otie Key, the original home of the city of Cedar Key. We followed Mandy out to the island in a two person kayak she provided after taking her recommendation that we head this way as opposed to our original idea of a backwater birding tour. I'm glad we did. The brief history she gave us as we walked, first the surf around the ruins of one of the old pencil factories, then the trail to the cemetery, was entertaining and informative. we got back in our kayaks to paddle around the island to view an eagles' nest with two youngsters that were near fledging. Then we paddled a little farther to a sandy beach where we enjoyed a scrumptious lunch she'd prepared. We decided to take the long way back by completing our circumnavigation of the island. It was an absolutely excellent experience with a friendly and informative guide. Thanks, Mandy!
