About
Nestled in the heart of a modern downtown, History Fort Lauderdale's campus includes 3 museums that tell the story of how a wartime fort became a modern city. The campus is the largest collection of historic buildings remaining in Broward County. The History Museum, housed in the 1905 New River Inn, contains exhibits from prehistoric through present day. The Pioneer House Museum (1907) is set as if the family will return at any moment for Sunday supper. Upstairs tour Louise King's sewing room, family bedrooms with period sleepwear, children's room with period dollhouse and antique dolls. The 1899 Schoolhouse Museum is complete with period wooden desks and textbooks. Guided tours of all 3 museums begin every day at 1 PM, 2 PM and 3PM.

This used to be a science museum when I was little and I hadn't been back in 30 years. I was suprised to learn so much about the city I grew up in, so much that I had never known before. And a great surprise at the end on the 2nd floor!

erwalkVery engaging neighborhood. Enjoyed railroad bridge across the street, well done Museum exhibits and New River riverwalk. Wonderful deep dive into origin of Fort Lauderdale. We stayed the day exploring and observing the flow of boats on the river. Water taxi and Stranahan House are a wonderful 15 minutes away on the riveralk.

Three buildings to see: hotel, school house, and historic home. There is a lovely artist in residence area in the hotel. The guided tour is highly recommended: the guide was knowledgeable and thorough and clearly passionate about local history.

Daniel was exceptional with his knowledge. Val was super welcoming when we came in and Welcomed us to the New River Inn which added an historical touch. My daughter learned much today. I recommend the guided tour because the additional building are a value added experience. I will come back.

This place would be much nicer if not on every corner there was a pan handler or homeless person sleeping on the benches where you could really sit and watch the water. Disappointed

Just across the tracks (west) of the #1water taxi stop, is a jem of Fort Lauderdale history. We rode the water taxi to the railway bridge, as the bridge was down we ventured farther along the waterfront by foot and came across this wonderful museum. David, our guide, was thorough in the history while keeping the tour interesting. The one hour guided tour of the main building, house, and school house gave a good overview. On the 2nd floor of the main building is a photo and archive gallery with very interesting, well presented memorobilia of the last 125 years.
A pleasant and informative way to learn about Fort Lauderdale.

Hi, the parking right next to the museum/house. Lots of history, I think it was the original house in the area. Across from the house, is the intercoastal, you can go for a short walk-to the left is a neat looking rest. although I don't know how good the food is.
Drinks? At night at the rest. there is a ghost/ history tour, rum running and gangsters, fun, the guide is a bit..., but lots of history. Very enthusiatic, (sp?), There is another tour also. If you like history tours, check out Bonnet House and Gardens. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Have fun. Mary
