    Worth going after the hurricane
Arrived 3/8/2023. The VRBO we stayed at was beautiful (brand new after hurricane Ian). Only a couple blocks from the beach. People were on the beach, but not in the water because of the red tide. But the weather was beautiful to be outside and we enjoyed the pool where we stayed. Restaurants are now open on FMB, but most tourist shops are still closed. Although they have a ways to go to get back to normal after the hurricane, we still had a wonderful vacation and glad to help out the businesses that were open.

    Ft. Myers Beach Stay
We had a wonderful trip to Ft. Myers Beach Florida. My mother and I went down to visit my son who lives in Ft. Myers. We went knowing a rebuild was happening so we were not disappointed. We stayed at an adorable VRBO named Mermaid Tales. It has only six units total, ours was named the Bikini Bottom Unit. It had just reopened in March 2023 and was everything we expected it to be. The property was covered in water to the ceiling from the hurricane, but had been fully remodeled and had everything we needed including a perfectly size pool to hang out in on non beach days. It was great knowing only six units would share the pool, keeping it more quaint. The owner Karen, was staying on property during our visit still finishing up some renovations. She was as nice as could be, showed us all the units and shared how the storm affected the property and even explained about style and artwork used in each unit making them unique. We will definitely return to Ft. Myers and Bikini Bottom would be perfect to stay in again. Bikini Bottom was great also because it was an end unit, so only one shared wall with a neighbor until. Mahalo to Sun Palace for making this trip easy and seamless from reservation to check out, and to Karen for having such a nice affordable rental property at the beach.

    Happy Daze it was!!!
The Happy Daze house was perfect for our low key family vacation. Only a short walk to the beach and there was a wagon to take all our stuff in. The layout of the house worked great for us and having smart tv’s in every room was helpful with the kids. Fort Meyers Beach has a ton of rebuilding to do from Hurricane Ian but we were able to find everything we needed in way of restaurants and stores. I hope we get to come back as we would definitely stay here again.

    Updated Comfortable Easy check-in
Visited Mermaids Tail on Fort Myers Beach in November. This property has bounced back from Hurricane Ian and is completely updated. Keyless entry was convenient and Sun Palace vacations were very prompt with instructions on entry and checkout. Pool is lovely and the hottub a nice bonus in the evenings. Plenty of seating at the pool. Easy walk to the beach. We will definitely stay here again.

    Beautiful beach with shells
We just visited Fort Myers beach today. The beach was beautiful and we went on a nice long walk. One of the bars by the causeway had a toilet behind their trailer. It also had live music. We ate tacos at one of the trailers. We parked by the old Mexican restaurant for $10.00 a day. We then went across the street to a trailer with ice cream. Gooz building was destroyed by the hurricane.

    Nice beach
Tons of shells. I’ve never seen so many nice shells in one place. Lots of small Conches. Clean beach and nice area. Nice area, but still recovering from hurricane. Unfortunately, no dog beach.

    The beach was OK
This was our first trip to FT Myers Beach so we didn’t know what to expect. The pictures of the beach show such beautiful white sand and beautiful water. We went to the County park at the far North end of the island. Parking was easy (but not free). It was a short walk to the OK beach. The beach was OK, the water was OK and we had a very pleasant afternoon. I am not sure fighting the traffic to get on or off the island was worth it. We may go back but it is not a “must visit again” beach

Loved our first visit to Fort Myers Beach! Although many businesses are still reliant on food trucks and temporary structures, this did not detract from the beautiful setting, the quality of food or the customer service. Our stay at the Anchor Inn and Cottages was sublime and so restful. Our visits to beach bars were fun and super affordable. The restaurant experiences around Times Square and along the waterfront were outstanding. I encourage travellers to support the rebuild in Fort Myers Beach! We will return.

MT Bikini Bottom was a great base of operations for exploring Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel/Captiva. Conveniently located an easy walk to the beach and the downtown area. The accommodations were clean and cozy. The pool area is a nice hangout.
Two notes of warning, neither of which reflect on the cottage: Traffic on the main road is very slow, and the area is still struggling to recover from Hurricane Ian. We were glad to be able to contribute to the economy.

We've spent two weeks in Ft. Myers Beach now and we'll be coming back. Sure business and homes were decimated by Ian but the spirits are high and the desire to restore normality is strong. While viewing the level of destruction can be depressing the efforts of people to restore their businesses and lives is inspiring. Restaurants are reopening while others are making do with food trucks, tables and tents. Some of our best meals came from these temporary solutions especially Tia's Kitchen. For now the Beach Bar is a trailer, a temporary bar and a collection of tables and chairs with umbrellas but make sure you stop by and catch the live music with a cold beverage.

The condo was beautiful. The location was great. The reasons for the 3 star-the balcony and all windows were bolted shut. So we couldn't enjoy the balcony for fresh air and to be able to be outside without having to go to the pool or beach. The other reasons are in the last 10 plus years of doing STRs this condo had the least amount of extras. Not even a shot glass! One cube for the dishwasher- 5 people one week. Be prepared to go to the store for extras. Not that I expected extras but most rentals we leave what we don't use-coffee pods, plastic bags, spices etc. as others do before us. Not here. They clean everything out. Also, one night we were going to BBQ and they were out of propane. So had to cook in the oven. Because you can't open the sliding glass doors and because the temp is locked on 72 it was a hot mess! BUT the location on the south end of the island is our favorite, and the condo was beautiful.

The water was very ugly and brownish green with rough sand and quite a bit of garbage. The restaurants there were also not very good but they were the highlight of that genuinely terrible trip to the beach.

When checking further, I learned that construction is not very far along.
Downtown Fort Myers Beach is still not rebuilt.
I think Fort Myers Beach still is one year away.

Ft. Myers Beach is trying to recover. We spent an afternoon there last weekend. It was my first time there since Hurricane Ian which decimated it a year ago. We found properties in all states of repair/disrepair: vacant lots where businesses and homes used to be, boarded up buildings, damaged ones with no visible signs of repair ongoing, some with active renovation, empty condos, a few open businesses and some (usually the largest ones) with no apparent damage. Oh yeah, and Margaritaville is nearing completion and taking reservations for after December 21st. It's not a bad looking resort but I dread the impact on the perennially traffic-clogged entrance/exit to the island. Too bad they couldn't have built it in a different location further down the beach. There were a few groups of tourists in the Times Square area but it seemed like the overall occupancy rate might have been 5% of that pre-Ian. The pilings of the lost fishing pier were visible. Piles of debris and broken boats have disappeared. Multiple food trucks offered various comestibles. Parking lots close to Times Square were charging $15-$20 but we drove further down to a side road (look for the numbered banners hanging on poles) which charged $5/hour using a phone payment system. Beach sand seemed in good condition--I know they worked hard sifting debris out of it. After a little while mid-island we drove back to Bowditch Beach Park. The facilities are still unavailable but portable toilets were provided. The beach itself seemed normal. It was fun to watch the boats in the channel and some fishermen said they saw several large sting rays.
