Nice place to hike. the trails are quite easy but you get a nice view of the area. There is a 3 dollar parkingfee for your car. Worth a visit if you are in Fort Pierce

Decided to try some smaller loop trails, and this was one of them. I loved it. Only did 2/3 of it, because I was worried my old dog couldn't keep up. But he enjoyed it as well.

Great hiking and birding trail with the beautiful Florida scrub jays!
Oct 2017
If you are looking through a great spot to hike and explore the beautiful nature and birds in Florida, especially the Florida scrub jay, you should check out this area. Be careful. It is very rustic but well worth the effort. Bring hiking shoes, water, your backpack and enjoy!

A wonderful place to walk in nature.

There are probably over 5 miles of trails. From the southern edge, at Indrio Road to the north edge of the pond, the trail is over .75 miles and there are other parallel trails . There is quit a diversity of habitat.

Great place to observe Florida Savannah
May 2017 • Couples
Visited this place as it is near to where we are staying in Vero Beach. You will find it off of Highway 1, going south. As soon as you pass the Auto Wreckers, you will see the entrance. Turn right, into the parking lot area. Very peaceful area with marsh and scrubland. It can take up to a 1/2 hour to walk to the south observation tower (an 18 step high elevated platform), but gives you a good view of the lay of the land. Be sure to bring water, and have insect repellent on before you start.
I was able to see the Florida Scrubjay without too much difficultly. Also saw a pair of cardinals. I'm sure if you go early enough, you will see a lot of birds.

I went to photograph Florida Scrub Jay and I wasn't disappointed. Jays, Woodpecker and Cardinal. Great natural trails to walk. Met very friendly people on the trails and saw several fishing in the lake. Easy parking. If you want to see the endangered Scrub Jays, this is one of the places to go. Highly recommended.

Great for birdwatchers
Nov 2015 • Friends
We were searching for one of Florida's rare and local birds - the Scrub jay, a bird that only lives near where it was born and is surprisingly friendly! This kind of landscape is not for everybody - you need to be prepared for the mosquitoes for a start. Otherwise it is appealing to nature lovers, photographers and hikers who want to get away from the busy roads, shopping malls for a while. Photo of scrub jay attached (from about 6ft!); he/she was very curious to see what we were doing on their patch! Saw shrikes and several birds of prey also. Not for everybody.

This place is a bit hard to find but with the extra effort. It is very well treed and the landscape is awesome. Good for painteres, photo experience and just hangin out. take a picnic on days that the wind blows so the bugs do not get you.
