Perhaps we were here at the wrong time of the year, but it was very disapponting. The Chua trail was closed beyond the boardwalk due to the high water. We took a look anyway and went to see two other places/entrances but apart from mosquitos...More

Some of the trails were closed because of high water, but we went to the visitor center and observation tower, which were both worth the visit.

It has beautiful landscape and not too crowded during the week. There are alligators and I don't mean like 1 or 2. I mean there are LOTS of alligators and many are over 8 feet long. They all seem pretty docile but one was sleeping...More

The tower at the visitor center allows a view of the expanse of Payne’s Prairie. It was great to see dear, bison and a multitude of birds right at the same location. Afterward, just 3 miles north on 441, we parked for a hike on...More

The nature, the combination of the vegetation, with the animals in liberty where they belong to, is an amazing experience.

We enjoyed avery long hike. We saw several deer and many different trees and plants. We especially enjoyed the tower where we saw wild horses in the distance. The parts are beautiful.

The La Chua Trail, the main way to the observation tower, is your best choice. But it will depend on how much water is on the prairie. Sometimes you don’t get very far because the gators are blocking the trail.
