There are great trails to walk and there is an area where you can rent canoes and paddle the river. Can be hot though since most of the trees are pine trees with little overhang. But very nice, safe and beautiful.

Sorry to say this state park has gone downhill since we were last. I guess budget cuts have affected service. We arrived early at 11:30 and were told someone was on our site and they had it until 1:00, so we pulled into the parking area and waited until 1:00. Again we asked if we could check-in and were told... More

We really enjoyed our stay in a cabin, we had No 7 and No 6 is similar, others look smaller, but perhaps it's mainly that they don't have a patio. As there are plenty of park and camping reviews, mine will be mainly about the cabin. See my pics that tell so much more than a wordy description could. Many... More

Just got back from weekend camping at Jonathan Dickinson State Park. Great experience....so much to do! We stayed in the pine grove loop. This area is basically a parking lot; no trees or real separation between rigs, but we only slept in our trailer. We took our canoe and enjoyed the river, paddling up to Trapper Nelson's homestead. We packed... More

Jonathan Dickinson - I am a died-in-the-wool tent camper/canoe/kayak camper - I first came to JDSP in 1974 and enjoyed the Autralian Pines in the Pine Grove campground many times. Really disappointed to see what that looks like today - from the air it's a scar on the landscape. But that's not the reason for my post - this time,... More

My daughter and I have been to this park on multiple occasions and each time it has been amazing. We have climbed the tower, walked the trails and this time we biked one of the bike paths. So peaceful and beautiful! Can't wait to go back and bike a different trail. We also want to go back to camp and... More

I felt like Trapper Nelson, the 1900's pioneer adventurer, of this region. The fur trader/trapper and the legacy of his exploits still abound. He is long gone from a demise in the 1960's of dubious circumstance, yet the Tarzan-like character stands tall in the stories for the rangers. Visit the Education Center and explore the flora and fauna first.

Good canoeing and kayaking on the Loxahatchee river. It is a bit unnerving to see an alligator while in a kayak but it does happen. They have a pontoon boat which goes up to Trapper John's Cabin. We tried to do it once but the trip was halted by a vicious thunderstorm. You can get a feel for old Florida... More

There's so much to do at this park and campground. We always camp at the river site area. Bring your bicycles, lots of bike trails. We also bring our kayak to go out on the river. Bathrooms are clean and staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The observation tour is great, one of the highest points in that area. I definitely... More
