We were staying in South Breach and took the opportunity to do some exploring and drive to Key Biscayne. The park is very easy to find, just stay on the road from Miami until you arrive at the gates to the park. Park admission is $8.00 per car with up to 4 people. There are a lot of trails to explore and hike, but they are not marked very well. We parked near the lighthouse and then walked to No Name Harbour, looping back along the water. Total time 1hour walking, flat and relatively easy. If you are hungry the restaurant (Boaters Grill) in No Name Harbour is fantastic.

Our family spent a day here after dropping our son off at U Miami. Located at the far end of Key Biscayne, we paid $8 to park. On our visit, the water was crystal clear and warm, yet still refreshing enough. The beach was very clean and it wasn’t crowded on a Wednesday afternoon. We parked at beach access 5, and there was about a 5-minute walk to the sand; from there, it’s a short walk to the light house. There was a strong current and the waves were small and gentle. We liked the packed sand, which made for easy walking. The strong breeze kept us from melting in the 95 degree heat. Upon arrival, you can opt to rent chairs and umbrellas (2 chairs, 1 umbrella- $30 for the day). You just take a seat and someone comes by to collect payment. There’s a good view of the Miami skyline. We’d return and recommend.

This park is amzaing. The lighthouse is beautiful. The beach is wonderful. The sunsets are lovely. There is a beach side restaurant that had excellent service and the food was ok. If staying in Miami this is a good family side trip. The traffic through Key Biscayne is not great but worth it to see the park. Be careful and do not feed the raccoons. Also, be careful that the raccoons don't jump in your dinner, we ordered at the outdoor restaurant and had an unexpected guest for dinner, Ms.Raccoon jumped on the table and stole our lobster. I wouldn't suggest the lobster anyway it was too dry.

We went to explore the beach mid morning. There was a single ranger booth that collected the $8 fee to enter (there are different fees for single person vehicles and more than 8 people). The was one car ahead of us when we arrived but a longer line when we were leaving. There may be a wait based on timing. The ranger gave us a map and suggested walking areas. We drove to the last parking lot and walked along the beach. The waves were calm, the water was warm (and clear) and the beach was beautiful. There was dried seaweed on the beach, but that is expected in a natural environment. There were parts of the beach on our walk where we were the only ones there. The facilities were clean and the parking lot well maintained. There is so much more to see, we look forward to going back.

Its fun when filled with people on weekends, but even better when visited on a weekday. Terrific place to relax. It's heavenly with wide vistas across the bay to the city, and likewise on the opposite side, has glorious views out to sea. Wonderful tranquil and restful spot for pondering life, nature, and time with friends.

My favorite beach in the Miami area. Family friendly. This is not a tourist trap. There are places to BBQ. It's very crowded on holidays like the 4th of July and Memorial day. There is also a tour of the lighthouse/underground rail road restorations however whether the tour guide shows up that day is unpredictable. The self guided tour is enjoyable. We were able to relax on the beach and we also learned a lot. For example: Raccoons can open a box of Cheezits.

We loved this beach. Visited around afternoon and there was not much crowd. White sands, clean beach. Had a great family time. Sunbeds and umbrella rental cost $25 and $8 for the admission. And also there is a beautiful lighthouse for some amazing pictures.

After our adventures of snorkeling at Biscayne National Park, Caption Marco suggested we venture out here for a swim on the beach, dinner and watching the sunset. We got there too late to tour the light house, which was the oldest structure in Dade County. This was located at the southern tip of Key Biscayne. But we did swim in the beach for a while and then headed out for dinner at Boater Grill. Which was GREAT and well suggested. Unfortunately, it was cloudy that night and not much of a sunset. But still a GREAT experience.

We spent a fun few hours here before a late flight back home. The lighthouse itself is impressive, and the Lighthouse Cafe is a good stop for lunch. Look out for the raccoons everywhere in the car park ! One small negative is the mosquitos which are prevalent. Insect repellant is definitely required.

Very cool place to go to spend the day on the beach. At Bill Baggs park there is an entry fee of 8 dollars per car and there are plenty of places to park your car. Very good beach close to Cape Florida Lighthouse, very calm waters.

So you think it would be better to go on a Friday afternoon or Saturday morning? We'll have a car and I read parking gets hard to find and it gets crowded.

Hello, what’s the best way to be able to take your own bike to enjoy the trails and then also go enjoy the beach? Is it safe to leave the bike on the car bike rack with a bike lock? Do they have better locations to leave the bikes or do people just walk the bikes out on the beach where they can keep an eye on them?

hi will the park be open on Christmas day? will we be able to park the car??
Written 10 July 2019
Hi Sally,
The Florida Parks official website states that Bill Baggs State Park is open 8am to sunset, 365 days a year. Parking is currently $8/vehicle.
You will love the beaches and the sunset at this park. It’s location, just a short drive from Miami is really convenient as well. Ask the park employee manning the toll booth which location is best as far as concentration of visitors. We had a huge stretch of beach almost to ourselves.

hi, driving a car is the only way to get to Bill Baggs Cape State park? no other kind of transportation? thanks!!
Written 12 July 2018
If you don’t have a car I would recommend Uber.
It’s not a long drive from Miami to key Biscayne but well worth the trip to see the wildlife and swim.
