Very old cemetery

Lots of above ground tombstones and concrete mausoleums in an old cemetery. Fun to walk around or ride through.

We decided to go it on our own but wish we had take the tour. Some very old plots but without the guide explaining the history so much was missed. Don't be cheap, pay for the tour, get the history. With that being said we still spent 45mins to an hour there just reading headstones.

I do not wish to sound disrespectful but some of the headstones are very funny. The epitaphs, as desired by the deceased, have some odd wording. I think there are a lot of eccentric characters buried here.

Perhaps many cemeteries have interesting things to see, but the one in Key West also has amazing things to read! Like "At Least I know where he is sleeping tonight", "I told you I was sick" and many others. The Honorable Sir Peter Anderson, the man responsible for creating the "Conch Republic" is now buried her too in his HUGE... More

I've heard so much about the Key West cemetery and the interesting epitaphs you can read on the gravestones. It's in the middle of Old Town so it isn't on the main drag, kind of in the middle of neighborhoods. I wish we had a guide while walking through it, to point out the interesting markers. Maybe we'll go again... More

Learn something of the history of Key West by visiting memorials to its citizens who have gone before. The only cemetery I've visited where you can also hang around with chickens and iguanas. Love it!

We absolutely loved this cemetery. I am a symbolism buff and although this one didn't contain as much as some I've been to, it was none the less fabulous! I found some symbols I was not familiar with and will have to research. This site is from the mid 1800's although the original washed away in a storm prior to... More

We were amazed at the history in this cemetery. You can drive thru or walk. If your lucky you will see iguana's wondering about.
