Zoo Miami (also known as The Miami-Dade Zoological Park and Gardens) is the largest and oldest zoological garden in Florida, and the only sub-tropical zoo in the continental United States. The unique climate in South Florida allows us to keep a wide variety of animals from Asia, Australia and Africa, representing a broad mix of species that is unlike any other zoo in the country. Zoo Miami today occupies almost 750 acres, and is home to more than 3,000 animals representing over 500 different species. Of this population, more than 40 species are classified as endangered. The zoo also houses more than 1,000 species of trees, palms and other plants, and over 100 special exhibits showcasing a broad number of species and scientific topics. We are accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) which means we have passed a rigorous application and inspection process and meet or exceed the AZA's standards for animal health and welfare, fundraising, zoo staffing, and involvement in global conservation efforts. Zoo Miami is proud to be an active leader in many global wildlife and environmental conservation initiatives, and we are currently involved in over 36 projects taking place on six continents.

ZooMiami is a little pricey and if you are a frequent or occasional visitor, it saves to buy the yearly membership. Well maintained, great diversity of animals and the new aviary is very well done. There are also alternatives for getting around if you are...More

Had some wonderful photo ops today at Miami Zoo with the Lions, Elephants, and Tigers - my favorites! My first visit to this zoo, and was a bit frustrated at the $21.00 per person admission fee- too much! Anyway, the exhibits were beautiful, considering today's...More

This zoo is very open, both for the people and animals. Lots of walking; you might want to take their tram or better, ride a 2 or 4 person bike. The helpers are very friendly and knowledgeable. The only disaster is the food court around...More

If zoos are your thing, Miami's zoo is a great one to visit. The exhibits are cage-less, meaning you are separated from the animals by moats not bars. There is a great new Florida Everglades section and a very nice aviary. Other highlights include the...More

Hi there. We plan on walking the entire park slowly, so when entering the park when it owns at 10am should we go left or right? I assume it would better to go in the direction of better and more active animals while the heat and sunshine are not out at full force? And secondly, is the tram worth doing after we do the entire walk of the zoo? Thanks.

If you go to Miami in July it will be hot no matter which direction you go. We move left to avoid the bigger crowds who move right. Highly recommend the pedi-cab and not the tram. It helps you not run out of patience and... More

We do not offer camel rides anymore. But you can feed them, as well as our giraffes.
