About
This vibrant enclave in Miami is known for its thriving arts scene, French-Creole flavors, and brightly-colored buildings. Start at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex—there's an art gallery, theater and the popular Caribbean Marketplace, where you'll find vendors selling sugarcane juice and flaky meat pastries, Haitian handicrafts, music, and events. You can also have a taste of some of the best Caribbean food in Miami at its roster of restaurants. To learn more about Little Haiti, sign up for a guided walking tour of the area. Miami city tours often make a stop here too. – Tripadvisor

I had always heard about Little Haiti, so I had wanted to see the neighborhood to get an idea about Haitian culture.

I always try to learn about different cultures and traditions, because other countries do things so different than us here in America.
Other countries are definitely more family/people-tradition oriented, in my opinion which is beautiful.
Americans are about families too, but we are so much more fast-paced.

Unfortunately I got there too late so I couldn't really see anything

I did go by the Cultural Center though, and from the looks of it, it would have been a wonderful place to visit during open hours.

There are some informational pieces displayed, discussing Haitian culture both in Haiti itself and in America

Lots of beautiful art along the walls. Seating area. Paved walkways.
They had a gift shop also, that I would have loved to visit and purchase something.
They also had a tiki hut where I guess they sell drinks and cuisine?!

I've read a lot of bad reviews, but I didn't really feel unsafe walking around the Center. I didn't walk through any residential area though.

I recommend coming and visiting during the day so you can get a full visit of this neighborhood.

From this visit with an abrupt end I draw two conclusions:

- Residents have the right to feel like zoo animals and appear uncomfortable when people walk through their streets or take photos. What may be curiosity for you, for them is stigmatization.

- There are other realities that one can choose not to want to see when sightseeing.

Once you park your car, you start walking through a humble residential neighborhood, because the guide mentions the place, but without really knowing what to see, and you have an hour to dedicate to it during the last day of your trip. What you find are people gathered in their gardens or children playing in very modestly built houses. It is a neighborhood that gives a sense of community, but it is almost as if you were entering the gardens of a private urbanization without permission where everyone knows each other, but you are a stranger and they know that no one would have invited you. Every person you pass gives you a "what are you doing here" face, even when you visit the square with the statue in memory of Toissant Louverture.

In our case, we made the mistake of taking a photo, without even stopping, of a handmade sculpture that was outside a house fenced with a green raffia mesh. Even so, the children who lived there saw it. After a few minutes, a man appeared on a moped asking us about the photo. He also recorded us with his cell phone. It was uncomfortable, we realized that we had invaded their privacy and that it could be a big hassle to be there on the last afternoon of our trip, with a rental car to return and a return plane waiting for us, so we quickly got out of there.

My advice: Spend that hour adding to your time in Wynwood. You can see 2 or 3 buildings passing by if you go by car, but do not invade the life of a community to which you do not belong because you will all feel uncomfortable.

This may have been a place in the past but today it was a miss. The market was closed after advertising there were open. The culture center or what was suppose to be a collection of art and culture is now a school with kids playing in the court yard. NO ART or murals as advertised. The handful of stores were voted and there wasn't really anything to see. The one sight that was still there was a church that of course was closed. Basically this was a 45 minute ride to see nothing!

I've been a resident of Miami since 1989. LITTLE HAITI IS A VERY BAD AND DANGEROUS NEIGHBORHOOD!!! Folks, this is the worst neighborhood in Miami, most of the violent and gang crime that happen in Miami happen here. I don't even suggest you drive through this area! A couple of reviews here say "Crimes are and can happen anywhere" and "Don't believe the hype about high crime". Folks, I don't know where this guy went, but there are NO decent parts of Little Haiti. It's dirty, dangerous, very high in crime and there is absolutely nothing to see here... This is not like Harlem in NY where it's a rough area, but has awesome architecture and a rich history. This is a ghetto shanty town. Nothing more, Nothing less.

I was staying in Miami after a Caribbean Cruise. I saw that many people in Trip Advisor highly recommended Little Haiti, so I visited the place. I went there during the day time and I didn't feel safe at all. There was nothing special there. Just some not-so-nice neighborhoods. The so-called "art district" (south part of Little Haiti) was just a few furniture stores. Nothing special at all! This place is so overrated. I have included pictures here. I hope it'll be helpful for you to plan your trip when you are in Miami next time.

Do not visit this area if you are not from Haiti. Part of this "unwillingness to assimilate" results in ill-will towards any "visitors". We were treated extremely rudely and we live in Miami! Plus the area is barely safe during the day, forget about after dark. There are much nicer areas to visit in Miami, go to Bayfront Park or Coconut Grove.

I have seen some of the negative reviews regarding this area. However, this area is rich in Haitian culture and pride. And the food is authentic and the Haitian cultural center is a must see. Please do not allow the negative reviews rob you of a great experience. Now, this area is not marked with expensive mansions and high end apartments and condos. It is an urban area and certain common sense precautions should be observed like any other area of town. I loved the area and most definitely will visit again and again

Who in their right mind, especially anyone who knows Miami would want to visit Little Haiti???? Certainly not for "arts and crafts". Make sure you have Trip Interruption Insurance and good health coverage. The only thing good about the place is that you are not far from Jackson Hospital Ryder Trauma Center (just in case you need to be taken there) Proceed at your own risk!

Hello, I happen to live here in little Haiti. I am an artist and white skinned and my home/studio is here. I have also lived in Coconut Grove, Spain and the Greek Islands, And what I have learned here is that beauty has nothing to do of what you see outside of you but inside reflected on others. Really don't judge a book by its cover, everywhere there is danger. I am really more afraid of the uptight rich people of Miami full of fear. Those are the ones that will hurt you.

As a 64 year old, born in Miami. Stay Away even on the adjacent roads including Biscayne Blvd. Don't stop even for coffee. Keep items in your trunk out of sight. I speak from experience and as a victim. Yes crime happens everywhere but more often here.
