The Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU is the only Museum dedicated to telling the story of 250 years of Florida Jewish heritage, arts and culture. The museum is housed in two adjacent lovingly restored historic buildings, at 301 Washington Avenue on South Beach, that were once synagogues for Miami Beach's first Jewish congregation. The museum's focal point is its core exhibit, "MOSAIC: Jewish Life in Florida, 1763 to Present" and its temporary history and art exhibits that change periodically. A Collections and Research Center, several films, Timeline Wall of Jewish history, museum Store filled with unique items and Bessie's Bistro complete the experience for visitors of all ages and backgrounds. The museum is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums.

I started with a private talk about the history of Miami Beach and the museum with a Mr. Brayer, who did a great job. I was extremely impressed with the sculpture exhibit. However, I found the movie poster exhibit very weak. Will return again to support the museum

I made a point to check out the museum during my first trip to Miami Beach. The highlight was the stained glass window that was donated by the Jewish gangster Meir Lansky. The museum includes two attached synagogues - I was told the last service was in 2005. Believe it or not the beach does get a little boring after... More

The Jewish Museum of Florida that exhibits that trace the history of the Jewish community in Florida. Sometimes not welcome, other tomes pioneers, Jews have log play a part in Florida's development. I try to come to this museum each year , as the temporary exhibits change. This one was Jewish topics in motion pictures, Cinema Judaica. There was a... More

The volunteer guides were very engaging and knowledgeable. This is a history of the Jewish people in Florida. It doesn't try to be more than it is and so it succeeds well in its goal of educating the public on the history of the Jewish people in Florida. Loved the personal nature of so many of the exhibits and the... More

This museum was virtually a stone's throw from where we were staying and well worth the visit. This is the site of the first Synagogue on Miami beach and tells the story of the Jewish people in Miami Beach, through artifacts, news stories, photographs and narrative. The inside of the museum is beautiful, especially the stained glass and marble altar.... More

Excellent museum describing Jewish history, places and people of south Florida. A staff member gave us a nice 5 minute overview of the museum before we started. I particularly enjoyed the exhibits on early Jewish settlers in Florida and businesses owned by Jewish proprietors. Don't miss the window donated by mobster Meyer Lansky. The photos and accompanying information signs could... More

I visited when the Jewish Museum had the Iraqi Jewish history recovered documents. It was fascinating! The gift shop is wonderful too! It's small, but has a great selection.
