Went out there for an overnight camping trip. We chose to camp away from the main area for some seclusion. It was a pretty decent walk considering we had a bunch of stuf with us, but our party of 4+dog made it out no problem. There is a great atmosphere about the place during the day and even more so... Spent one night at the dark sky preserve and it was the most peaceful place I've been yet! Slept in the back of our truck with lots of blankets and pillows in early October. We didn't know we could have campfires but there's lots of rock areas ppl have set up already. The 3 trails are a good walk/hike. Early... More

I thoroughly enjoyed taking my Dog here, went on 1 of many trails. There was a beautiful spot by Hardy Lake.

A short drive from Barrie; although it's not very well marked, there's not much around it so it's not that easy to miss (when you start seeing cars parked on the side and signs, it's there), but it's a good idea to have a GPS handy. We had a clear sky so it was perfect and there's lots of open... More

The night sky here is really something else, I've never seen the sky blanketed with stars and the Milky Way overhead this close to Toronto. I would only caution that the drive there is really quite dark (obviously) and the turns are easy to miss if you're not careful. Make sure you have a functioning GPS. The actual preserve is... More

The Torrance Barrens is 4,700 acres of wilderness "dark sky reserve" in Muskoka. For most people, it is the trail system comprised of several routes that vary from 3K to 7 or 8K that is the goal. These trails run along rock ridges as well as through some small scrub areas, often paralleling fens (small, marshy water bodies). Quite open,... More

Gave it 4 star only because ive only been here during the nights. When there's a major sky event going on, it gets a bit crowed. Hard to find the main spot using GPS. There are multiple openings you can park at along Southwood Rd. If they can somehow make it a bit easier to find the Highland Pond at... More

We drove up from Southern ontario. This place is great. We came during the week and managed to get a sweet spot overlooking the lake on a huge chunk of smooth rock. We hiked the trails (I mountain hiked them) and rode our bike around to a local Marina/Variety store. This place has it all for the adventurer that likes... More

We went to Torrance-Barrens to try and catch the Northern Lights and the Milky Way, if weather would permit. The chances of a clear sky in January was very, very "iffy," but we went anyway. We went by in the early afternoon to get familiar with the area. The "turtle crossing" signs, apparently serious, were equally humorous. We researched the... More
