Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

There were 21 of us in our Must Love Hiking group. We stayed in cabins that were basic and clean and well stocked with wood. There was ample ice at our request supplied by Happy as there is no fridge nor any other appliances. There is a gas stove with gas cylinders. The cabins all faced the boma which we sat round the fire every night. The ablutions were spotlessly clean with plenty hot water while the donkey geyser (log fire under the geyser) was burning. Wonderful rustic experience out of our normal luxurious comfort zone. Kitchen was basic and clean. We hiked the 4km and the next day 10km. The hikes were absolutely amazing. Lots of highlights from technical to challenging to invigorating swimming in the pools under the waterfalls! Views were absolutely breathtaking! Definitely one for the bucket list! All I can say is WOW! An awesome experience! Thank you Wathaba Hiking Trails! 👏

This hike and its trails are well prepared with ups and downs as well as flat, mountain, rivers, rocks, forests, you name it. Also boasts fantastic spectacular waterfalls. Although this hike is a good work out it is manageable and the technical bits do-able. Great day out!!

We decided on the spur of the moment and we were so pleased. We were welcomed and as we only had time for the 4km walk we did that. It was gorgeous - we hiked and sat by the waterfall and just had a perfect day. We plan to come back and do the longer hike and stay for the weekend - what a fantastic place.

I recently visited the hiking trail with friends. I had googled the place and figured it might be interesting to check out. We did the 10km trail and boy was it amazing. The views are just spectacular. We were stunned by the beauty throuhghout. The greenness of the green areas, the grayness of the gray parts of the trail. It offered everything. The cascading waterfall and pool were the highlight. We of course took for a swim. Beautiful trail.

I have been to the Wathaba camp on a previous occasion and loved it so much and just had to visit again. The site itself is basic but full of character.

The 10km trail is tough and I believe a beginner or unfit person would struggle somewhat. The trail is well marked with great variety through forest, glens, grass plains, rock etc. Wear your costume and take a dip in the beautiful fresh water to refresh yourself before the last approx. 4km of the hike.

The 4km trail is just as stunning and well marked and include a rock pool and fountain.

Nights are spent around the fireplace, it's well worth the trip and will be an experience you will always remember.

The cabin we stayed in was well-maintained and all facilities were in great condition.

The hiking trails were beautiful and have ladders and rails in slippery areas. A lot of work has clearly been put into making the trails safe.

Wow! What a gem we have found.
When it comes to a weekend getaway from the hustle and bustle of Jozi...this is the place to be.

- Hydro-power electricity
- Everything you will need to make you stay comfortable
- 10km and 4km hiking trails
- Plenty of waterfalls
- Friendly owners
- Neat and clean facilities
- Bring your food and drink and all else is available for use.

Well...as usual....it was wonderful!!! I now understand why people go once a year. We hike roughly 4 times a year. Wathaba is by far the most beautiful hike in Mpumalanga Limpopo and North West! The trouble they go to to make your hiking stay pleasant is amazing. Whether you hike or stay in the camp, being out in nature at Wathaba is excellent!

The owner of Wathaba has really put a lot of effort into the accommodation. There are 3 camps situated alongside the river as well as a secluded cabin. There are 2 different circular trails. Plenty of stunning waterfalls along the trails. The terrain takes you through forest and mountains. One has to visit to experience the beauty of this place.
