- GSB8 contributionsAWESOME!!!!This was awesome!!! The tour guides Christina and Meg were outstanding…..explaining details about the animals and the reservation! The snack provided was great and very interesting. This is something you don’t want to miss. Well worth the money!!! Will do this every time we go to Disney.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 19 February 2024
- ErinVMDallas, Texas135 contributionsThe perfect excursion! Book it!Simply the best!! If you’re reading this then you’re in the depth of a Disney trip plan (wonderful!). If you’d like to save yourself time, just book this!! But, if you’re like me and countless other Disney planners, you will read every word and then some. (and then still book it but knowledge is power!) 1. The excursion is so much fun and informative! My 14 year old (age mentioned for valid reasons… #teenager) son put this at the top of his experiences in our week at Disney. The guides are personable and entertaining and their ease in what they do make the time go by so fast while setting the experience itself apart. They take you to spots where you can get up close and personal with animals as well as AK Caretakers who you may already know from their tv show! (Seriously watch that during your Disney countdown. It’s great!) 2. It’s a wonderful way to get away from the crowds while still being in the park…and you’re more in the park than anyone else gets to be! The groups are small and you really do feel like you’re on your own safari when really you’re in a bougie zoo (those animals are so lucky!). You enjoy every minute of your few hours and you walk away feeling like you truly experienced AK. 3. The lunch is perfect! While dining is probably also something you’re going back and forth in your plans on, it’s so nice to get to sit in a wonderful location, gazing at elephants and giraffes and eating food perfectly prepared without you asking or ordering or waiting for your name to be called. While I give lots of props to a lot of the thematic meals we had on our trip, this light dish was honestly one of my favorites. 4. A lot of excursions are experiences you do once and then don’t feel the need to do again but I think this trek will be our annual addition to our days in AK. Book it!Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 23 June 2024
- ameliabedelia523Newton, New Jersey38 contributionsA must-do for animal loversWorth every penny! Jason and Christina were our guides. Both were a wealth of knowledge and made us feel right at home. They made sure everyone could see everything. Other cast members met us on our journey to talk about their hippos and crocodiles. They had so much knowledge but also so much love for their animals. The safety measures are extensive and very thorough. The rope bridges are an incredible experience. The food was so fresh and unique. The pictures taken by the guides are a huge plus so leave your phone in the locker and live in the moment! On our next trip, we will for sure do the other Animal Kingdom behind-the-scenes experiences!!Visited November 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 December 2024
- David POrlando, Florida141 contributionsGreat adventureReview of the privately-guided, pre-paid VIP expedition (NOT Kilimanjaro Safari ride). This was a fun excursion. Both of my young adult children really loved it. The trek begins with getting fitted with a harness, a headset (to listen), a complimentary aluminum water bottle, sunglass strap and phone strap. You walk on some back trails until you get to the interpretive stops. All the while the guides are providing interesting info about the park right to your ear (I thought the headsets were a great feature for the tour). Safety is paramount, so they are constantly checking your gear. There were specific stops to see the Hippos and Crocodiles where you would attach your harness and peek over the edge to see the animals. There were also a couple of cable and wood bridges to cross over the streams and crocodiles. The tour continues as you board a special open air truck and tour the savanna, getting a little closer to the animals than on the safari ride tour. Here the trucks would occasionally stop for more detailed info on the animals and Q&A. Next you head to a patio dining area overlooking the savanna where an African themed meal is served along with the ever popular Disney POG juice. After this break, its back on the truck for a couple more stops before returning back to the departure dock. Also included are several photos taken by the guides. I’ll admit it is a bit pricey, but if you have the means it is an experience one won’t soon forget and the kids will love.Visited December 2024Travelled with familyWritten 27 December 2024

My husband booked us this tour as part of my Christmas present this year. I was hesitant to cancel, as I thought it was a lot of money for such a short time. However, we did end up going, and it was fantastic! Our guides were Molly & Alex (from Singapore!), and they were delightful and very knowledgeable. They truly do care for the animals, and know most of them by their names, and you can imagine how many there are to remember. When we arrived in the morning, they explained all the safety measures to us, helped us into our gear, got us our own personal water bottles, and we were off on our safari! It lasted about 3 hours, and allowed us to get up close and personal with the animals, as well as have our own private truck on the safari. There were only 5 people in our whole group, so it was perfect, and felt like we got the VIP experience. About halfway through the tour, we stopped for a light lunch that consisted of various fruits, yogurts, cheeses, dried meats, etc...It was plenty to keep you full for a few hours. They also took so many pictures along the way, and you get access to the digital library to view them all and download them if you wish. If you have the chance, definitely do this tour, you will not regret it! Thanks again Molly & Alex for a great day!

I hadn't heard of this experience before my mum mentioned wanted to go on it for our recent trip, I'm am amateur photographer and loved the idea or being able the get up close with some of the animals and get to see a different perspective to normal animal Kingdom safari.
The experience was 100% worth it and I would recommend to anyone who loves animals. The food was fantastic. Our guides Kit and Daniel were so friendly and knowledgeable about the animals we saw.
I absolutely love the photos they took of us too. 😍

This tour was amazing. Our guides, Daniel and Alex were awesome. Also Hanna, our truck driver and all of the others working on this tour were just as great. It's a behind of the scenes tour of the Africa Safari Ride. We were outfitted with vests that would eventually be used for safety and attached to a line. We walked through the forest stopping first overlooking the hippos. We learned a lot about the hippos while one of the guides fed them some lettuce. After this, came the most exciting part. We walked across two wooden bridges with planks missing. The second bridge went directly over the crocodiles! The guides are very diligent in checking everyones harness and keeping everyone safe. Next we boarded our own truck and drove through the savana stopping at varous places to see animals and learn about them. We then were able to get our snack which was actually a delicious assortment of delicacies and a full meal. While eating, the giraffes came close by.
It was a great day.

An absolute highlight of my Disney trip and easily one of the best things Animal Kingdom has to offer... and for what it includes, it's also reasonably priced.
This is basically a VIP version of the Kilimanjaro Safari attraction, spread over three hours and including delicious food, amazing guides and a load of pictures
The trip starts with getting strapped into a harness which will later help you avoid being eaten or falling to your death. From there you get close ( but not too close ) encounters with hippos and crocodiles, brave a seemingly rickety rope bridge straight out of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, take a leisurely drive across the savannah and then enjoy a platter selection of tasty Africa inspired foods in a private area with stunning views across the grasslands. As a bonus, you also get an exclusive water bottle and name badge to keep, plus a tonne of photos of the entire experience uploaded directly into the app for you to download and keep.
Our guides Paula and Ali were amazing and made a terrific experience even better.
Definitely worth doing but book early, there only up to 12 places per tour and it fills up fast.

Did the trek with my wife and two teens. They spend a ton of time of safety. You get to go over a bridge while snapped into a safety line. It was quick, nothing crazy. Good lunch (African cuisine). If you have picky eaters with you, they won't like.
About half of the time you ride around the savanna like the other tours, but yours is a little more personalized.
My wife really like it. I was more "it was just okay." For the cost, I won't do it again.

Tour guides went above and beyond to make sure we had a wonderful tour and a knowledgeable experience! They knew a lot about not only the tour but the animals, other parks and other random facts about Disney World! They take some great pictures throughout the tour and the food provided was very good!

I went on Disney's Wild Africa Trek on 12/3/11. This trip is rather pricey at $180 per person, plus theme park admission, but I am glad I splurged.
This is a more in depth version of the Kilimanjaro Safari ride.
First they outfit you in a vest with a harness, and make you cross a test bridge to make sure you are comfortable on suspension bridges. The first stop is a look at the hippos. Your harness is used to allow you to stand close to the edge of the embankment over the hippos. You then cross two suspension bridges and then it is time for a better look where your harness allows you to get close to the edge again. Then you shed your vest and harness and get on a truck (a lot smaller than the safari ride vehicle). The route is the same as the safari ride, but this goes at a slower pace and there are several pull outs along the way where you stop and get more animal viewing time. They have built a structure out on the savannah that you stop in at for about a half and hour and are provided with a snack and a wonderful view.
You are allowed take a camera as a long as you have a strap aso it can be clipped onto your vest However, the tour guides take pictures all throughout the trek and mail you a CD of all of the pictures.

you begin this trek walking thru some wooded area to the hippos, where there is a park employee feeding them. Then onto the suspension bridges, two of them. Under the first one ,there is nothing to see, under the second one there are some alligators. Then onto the safari truck which takes you on the exact tour that all visitors can take for free. You stop for a snack under a sheltered hut, which was terrible, except for the tablespoon of curry chicken .For 189.00, we expected alot more, save you money and just take the free safari ride.

We made booked this attraction weeks before we left for Orlando by visiting the VIP section of Disney as we have been to Orlando many times before and fancied something a little different.
We booked in for the 08:45 trip and once we were welcomed in by our hosts, we given a coat with a harness attached and had a safety briefing. From there we set off (there was 9 in our group).
We first visited various different birds in the avery and then we went off the "beaten" track to visit the Hippo's where we were met by Bill who looks after the them. We spent about 30 mins there after he explained all he could including a little food for them as well.
After that we visited one of the high lights of the attraction - walking across 2 rope bridges with Crocodiles underneath, this was superb, something you'll never experience - like I said at the beginning you're harnessed up and another safety briefing was given before we all went one by one across the bridges.
Once we were across the bridges we were taken to a bank very close to the Crocodiles and we met another person who monitors the animals.
After that was our own "private" tour through "The Savannah". This was different to the ones that the general public use , first of all you have your own private truck and you have two hosts and also we were allowed to park up at various locations and take photos where as on the general one, you don't really stop. (I got some lovely photo's of the giraffes)
Once this had finished, we then went to a landing on a lodge in the middle of the park where we had our food. This is superb to say the least, I wont spoil it for you, but the food and the lodge was out of this world. It topped off the whole experience. The scene whilst eating the food was Superb and Superb!!
The other thing I would like to mention is that you dont need to take a camera (although I did) as they take quite a few photos of the group with a nice Nikon camera and at the end you're presented with a log in code and you can do what you like with the photo's (print, share etc) without a charge!
The trip is quite pricey but well worth the money and an experience you'll never forget. My wife and I would recommend this to anybody (sorry no photo's to share at the mo, but others have)

For our 50th wedding celebration with our family in Florida our 2 sons bought tickets for 9 of us to experience the Wild Africa Trek. We all travelled from the UK, Canada and Qatar to Florida for this celebration.
My wife has to have the use of a wheel chair and when the booking was made this was explained and a special timing of 11.45 am was given for tours which would accommadate wheel chairs. We were not able to find out exactly how wheel chairs would be accommadated. Guest relations who usually give good information just said that the wheel chair would be taken round the most exciting part which was a walk over a rope bridge while wearing a harness.
So full of expectation we gathered in Animal Kingdom to begin.
Our first disapointment came when it was explained that the able bodied would go on one route and the not so able would be taken on another route. The whole reason behind the tour was lost as we expected to be together.
My wife is able to walk a short way so we went with the the guide plus my youngest son and his wife to walk round the Pangani forest trail for a 30 minute stroll. We have done this many many times as this is included in the normal visit attractions. The only new item was a man with some maggots who proceeded to feed the birds. Many others came to watch also as we had done on previous visits. Otherwise the tour was as we have done by ourselves many times. The guide never asked if we had been to animal Kingdom before so we did not see anything new as promised.
We then joined the rest of the family in a truck to go around the "safari park". My wfe could not be reunited with her wheel chair had a most painful shaking journey to the Safari hut for a lunch. The truck had no facilities for wheel chairs although that was the trip we had booked.
The lunch was fine and a cake had been bought to celebrate our 50th.
Disney was however not able to offer any facility to look after the cake for us so we had to carry it around the Park for the next 4hours.
The truck then took us on a further rattle and shaking trip which in fact was more uncomfortable than the normal safari truck and the viewing facility was worse.
We were not reunited with the wheel chair until my wife had made a further 15 minute walk to our starting place.
Even the party who went over the rope bridges did not seem to be gushing with the excitement that Disney predicted.
We left the tour definitely feeling that we had been short changed by Disney. The day turned out to be a total disaster we had not had a family experience and the very expensive tickets did not even include Park entry.
Anyone considering this Tour should do so with the expectation that it is not money well spent. Proceed on this trip with caution - you have been warned - as it is a very expensive disappointment.

Written 27 September 2019
Saw one. Usually on a high rock. You will enjoy the trek

How can I make a reservation for this tour? Do I have to call a certain number?

Yes you must call not on any website

Hi, Diane. What would you like to know about this attraction? If you're drinking all that water, what happens if you have to go to restroom? lol
Written 20 September 2018
There is not a restroom until about 2 hours in. There really is no way to turn back or go ahead of the group. Might not want to do this tour if you have an overactive bladder or are nervous about this type of situation.
Written 26 November 2018
We are booked on the trek in July, will we be ok with the heat and humidity. It's a 10:30 tour.
Written 14 June 2018
The trek is in the savannah so there's some shade from the trees and you'll be on grass. It will likely be a little cooler than it would be in the regular park as you won't be standing on hot asphalt. You will also be given a water bottle to take along with you.

Written 7 January 2018
what is best time to schedule for this tour?
Written 3 January 2018
Go first thing in the morning. You arrive before the Park opens, so you have a chance to see the Park with no one else there, as you walk to the Tour site. A rare opportunity for peace and quiet in a Disney Park,The animals are roaming more freely as the Adventure Ride is just staring for the day.
It is still early when you complete the tour, so stay and tour the other exhibits/rides.
Written 8 January 2018
It is run throughout the year. You must make a reservation

Hi! My boyfriend is in love with Gorillas. He thinks they are the coolest things ever so I've been looking for a cool gorilla encounter we could possibly do. Does the trek provide you with any up-close/extra experience with the gorillas? Or is it the same as what you can do without paying extra?
Written 7 April 2017
No. The gorillas are on a separate trail from the one used for the trek, which covers the animals that can be seen on the Safari ride.
