I have had the privilege of volunteering at Oscar Scherer for over 15 years. This conveniently located State park is located just south of Sarasota, FL. The campground has about 120 sites all with water and electricity and a common swear dump site. The Nature Center has some great displays of the local animals, birds etc and during day time... More

Easy access to this well laid out park with plenty of open spaces, many walking trails, water activities, picnic areas and wildlife abundant.

We went there today for some hiking. A nice nature area in Sarasota. They have several hiking trails and canoeing as well. Pretty standard Florida hiking, a lot of open hiking with no shade so probably not great to hike in the summer.

Hiked Yellow Trail (5 miles) on Jan. 1 with family. Most of it was in the sun in deep sand, but it made us savor the sections in the pine trees and shade. Saw a gopher tortoise. Next time I think we will do a bit of canoeing first just to make it more interesting.

We stayed at Oscar Scherer on our way up north and loved it. The campground is very cosy with sites close to the river, which are overgrown with lush vegetation. In addition the trails are very nice and we loved out stay there. We would definitely recommend this nice little state park, which we would have missed, if we hadn't... More

We first came here in May 2016, so on our return to Sarasota, we tried it again. Great for hiking, cycling or, in our case, a walk, we had a great time just walking around exploring. Good value

This park offers so many things that you can do, if you are a hiker there are many trails to explore. If you kayak you can rent one there or bring your own for an interesting trip. If you camp there are camp sites there.

Friendly staff, easily accessible facilities and user-friendly ease of entry into the waterway make this a good choice to explore one of Florida's many state parks. We kayaked out towards the Gulf and back, stopping to view bird life and coastal waterway homes. Decent picnic facilities and restrooms a bonus.

I've camped here a couple times and love it here. The park is beautiful with hiking and kayaking. You're likely to see a variety of beautiful animals and plants. I love this park and will keep coming back!

This annual event began years ago and cost $5.00. Now it rose to over $10.00 including a processing fee when you print the ticket yourself. Long traffic lines, confusing parking and no one to lead the way to the event. Once arrived, long winding line took over 1.5 hr to finally arrive at the trail only to be asked where... More
