Management suggestions:
1. Put your service staff to work for better customer service.
2. Remove men from the outdoor space when not there for Spa service. Fully dressed men on laptops who are camped there all day to gawk is creepy!
3. Take off chair covers on a sunny day so everyone can use the outdoor space. I requested this 2X - once in the morning and once in the afternoon and the chairs remain covered all day with not a drop of rain. Bizarre!
4. When guests tell you the steam room is not hot - do something about it.
5. Tell collection is not the most efficient way to lose your staff attendance. Every person I approached about an issue just lolled about and did nothing.
On a good note, My spa day in terms of services was excellent! I just wished I could have utilized the beautiful spaces to the fullest. These are all things that can be corrected with attention to detail. I will await a better experience next time I visit The Breakers.

So after doing weeks of research and looking at pages of reviews for this resort I decided to book it. My wife gets 2 weeks vacation a year and I wanted to take her somewhere special on a family vacation, well much to my dismay this was far from it. The resort states that they have many different activities for the kids including camp, video room, mini theatre and arcade. What they fail to tell you is that they have 30 kids in a room with 4 playstation consoles, 4 Xbox consoles, which 1 of each was broken, and a 8x12 mini theatre that only had movies playing that was first come first serve.
We arrived on a Monday and were amazed at how beautiful the resort was.The vaulted ceilings, breathtaking views and a friendly staff. Like I said I was going all out for my wife who deserved a great vacation for all the things she does for our family. I booked a 950 square foot sweet so the kids, 9,7,5 could have room to move and have there own room to sleep. The room was very clean, plenty of draws, closets and a big master suite. We decided to go right to the pool area but before we could go into the pool it started to thunder and lightning so the pool area was closed. The kids were very disappointed so I said lets go into the entertainment area and you could hang out till the storm passes. Well I guess I wasn't the only one who thought this. When we walked in there all the games were being used, kids were fighting over controllers, noone had the key for the closet for board games and a movie that was about 20 years old was playing. What a dissapointment already. We tried to make the best of it but after $50 in the arcade room in 20 minutes we called it a day.
Tuesday we signed the boys up for camp, at their request, and let the counselors know that my 7 year old who is almost 8 needs to be with my older son or he will not have any fun. Well once again another dissappointment. They didnt listen and put him with the 6/7 year olds ad they did sock puppets, really. My wife decided to check on the kids at 12 and all 3 boys wanted to leave the camp because they were extremely board. My wife told them to give it a shot till 3 and then if they didnt like it they didnt have to go back any other day, they agreed. Well at 2pm they took the kids to the pool area and that was it they had enough. We pulled them out and hung out in the pool having a great time. Then the Florida weather kicked in again and started to thunder. We left the pool area and decided to change and go have dinner. Dinner at the Italian restaurant was awesome, great food, service and not that expensive with kids eating free.
After dinner I walked over to the conceirge and asked them some questions, this is where I started to get real mad, I asked them if there was anything to do for the kids at night because they close all pools at 8, so no night swimming or even hanging out by the pool area. The woman told me I should go to the kids entertainment room, I explained that we already did and I was a dissappointed. She told I should get in my car, drive to the next town at City Place and go see a movie. I said hold up, you are telling me I am paying over $1k a night and I have to leave the hotel because you shut the hotel down at 8, she said yes. I said well what night do you have things to do for the kids like movie night by the pool, she said sometimes but not as of late. What about a bonfire do you do that? she said yes, i said great when, she tells me December, it was July. Now I was just about to blow because this was an Abbot and Costello routine. My wife knew I was getting mad and asked if we could go to Movies so i gave in.
On wednesday the kids did not want to go to camp so we hung out by the pool and beach all day, the days were great but night time very dissapointing. So that night we were thinking of using there sitter service and me and the wife would go downstairs to dance and have a few drinks. I said before we go through this whole ordeal let me look to see whats open. I walked down to 3 bars and they were closed, the only one open was the seafood bar with 6 60 year olds talking about their prostate. I walked to Conceige again and they told me to go to city place. Now that was it, I was starting to lose it. I asked them why there is nothing to do for adults and kids at night. He told me it was because of the turtles. I stopped and he saw my face getting really mad and explained that turtles go on the beach, mate and lay their eggs. I just walked away in such frustration.
Thursday and Friday was the same problem all over again. As I was checking out on Friday I spoke with the Hotel Manager Aaron Decker who appologized for all my inconveniences and said he will call me up personally, he even took my cell phone # down, to let me know what he could do. So it has been over 2 weeks now and he has not yet called or returned the 2 messages I left for him.
If you are a family looking for a place to go stay far away from here unless you like to pay for a place that closes at 8 and offers nothing for the kids.

I am staying at the Breakers right now for a professional conference. I took my family with me so they could enjoy the beautiful setting and amenities while I am stuck in meetings all day. There is no doubt that the lobby is beautiful, the views of the Atlantic are breathtaking, and there are many shopping and dining options (all extremely expensive).
I have been very disappointed with the service, though. When we arrived, along with lots of other conference attendees, we were told our room was not ready (although the rooms of the people checking in on either side of me were). I told them that we had been traveling since 4 am and had a very tired, cranky child and were told that they would expedite the room and call us. An hour of half and no cell phone call later, we went back to the desk where another clerk told us that she would have the room expedited. She asked if we wanted a room with a bathtub and I said yes, since I had a small child. In the meantime I had to go to the conference and leave the others behind. It took another half an hour to get a room -- which has no bathtub. When I called the front desk I got an "I'm sorry" and "I'll let my manager know." It's been 14 hours now, with no contact from a manager. In case the manager would like to find me, I'm in room 4162.
The kicker is that it says quite clearly on the Breakers website:
Experience even more from your vacation, June 1 - November 17, 2012 with Endless Vacation Savings. Daily complimentary benefits include: Continental breakfast buffet, spa & fitness admission, kids' day camp & meals & day camp, tennis, fitness classes, WiFi, and more.
I even clicked through for more information and thought this sounded great. But then I found out today that this special offer doesn't apply to people who received group rates. I went back to the site, clicked through, scrolled all the way down a very long page, and sure enough, in fine print, it says not available on groups. Why doesn't the Breakers say this more clearly in the description of the offer? I am right now trying to figure out breakfast options for my family before I go back to the conference, which won't be cheap since last night's children's meal cost $13.50. I brought workout clothes with a plan to visit the fitness room, which now appears isn't going to happen. And who knows how much I'm paying for this wifi, which I logged into thinking it was free (and no price ever came up), but who knows.
A really nice resort like this shouldn't play a bait and switch game. It's ruined what I thought was going to be a lovely getaway.

We stayed at The Breakers-Palm Beach for our 8th wedding anniversary in December 2005. Don't get me wrong, The Breakers is BEAUTIFUL!!!! World class service. The Sunday Brunch is to die for. However, I was disappointed in our room. I guess I expected really lavish surroundings. My husband could hardly fit in the bathtub. The bed was comfortable, however I have slept in beds that were more comfortable and in less expensive hotels.
We had The Breakers experience. I would definitely dine there, but I can't say that I would stay there again.

Paying $1,900/night to stay here in a deluxe room for a super special "second honeymoon." When booked, we were told we'd get a room upgrade if one was available. When we checked in, the hotel was full and an upgrade wasn't available... fair enough. But the next night when plenty of upgrades are available, apparently it is "policy" not to grant these, but *only* at check-in. Really? Plenty of unoccupied rooms and you'll disappoint guests paying $1,900 per night? Seems really stupid because we won't be coming back. Used to be a nice place when we stayed here years ago but seems to have gotten tacky in addition to foolishly mean-spirited. A big disappointment.

This was our first visit to The Breakers. We don't mind the summer in Palm Beach so this review is for anyone planning to go in May 1 to Dec 17th We may try another visit in Jan or Feb to see if it's different.
Here's what you need to know. May to December KIDS 12 AND UNDER EAT FREE.
If I had studied the website I would have been aware of this and booked elsewhere.
This is a family owned resort with a fabulous history dating back 100 years.
THE EXCELLENT:
Stunningly beautiful grounds, gorgeous hotel, amazing decor. For an old hotel it is spotlessly maintained. The female staff uniforms are gorgeous dresses from Lily Pulitzer
Our room was a partial sea view. Room 5100. Immaculately clean and fresh. It felt like it had just been decorated. Other places we've been in Florida that have carpet on the floor have had a slight sea/musty smell but NOT here. Housekeeping is first rate. Staff attentive and polite. Bed was so comfortable and the sheets and bedding pristine.
DINING: May 1 to Dec 17th Breakfast is included (A 35.00 value). Served in the Circle which is attached to the HMF Lounge (named for the founder Henry Flagler) This is the only meal served in this beautiful round room Buffet style with literally over 50 choices from fruit to omelette's to waffles etc.
Lunch and dinner have many choices. Within the hotel: The HMF lounge, The Seafood Grill, The Beach Club, The Ocean Grill and Room Service. Off property is Flagler's Steakhouse and Echo. There is a free shuttle to drive you the 5 minutes to each restaurant and when you get your check they radio for it to come and pick you up. Easy Peasy! We ate at Echo 2 times and I will review it separately.
POOLS AND BUNGALOW: There are 4 Pools next to each other. The Adult pool is a small lap pool, 2 family pools and then the south pool which is supposed to be a quieter pool, no pool toys or kids horsing around. There are no private Cabanas, They call them bungalows. Depending on location price varies. Ours was $345.00 a day by the south pool. They come with a personal Valet. Within the bungalow is a sofa, coffee table, Fridge, TV, Shower, toilet. 3 loungers, safe and Umbrella. Included in this cost is water and a fruit plate. Everything else is off the menu. Drinks are on the small side and 15.00 each. The first day we shared 1 entree the Chicken Quesedillas, 2 drinks and a bottle of wine and the bill was $100.00. On day 2 we shared the Sliders (4 mini mini burgers) 2 drinks and a bottle of wine another $100.00. One thing to note is there is a rain policy. If it rains for more than 4 hours straight then the bungalow is free. On day one it rained from 9:30 am to 12:45 so I spoke with the bungalow manager and they gave us a 50 % discount the first day because I explained that because of the rain I had booked Spa services of over $300.00. Our Valets were very good. "O'Neil" on day 1 and "Hewen" on day 2.
SPA: Beautiful decor, lovely changing rooms, Because it rained the first morning, my husband had a massage, he said it was very good. I had a manicure. 5 days later my nails are still perfect. It was a 25 minute manicure for $50.00 and at the end she gave me a little bag with the nail file, orange stick, hand lotion and polish that she used on me.
THE OK. We booked a Bungalow because we like poolside beverage and food service. The signage around the pool states: No cell phone usage, no food and no Beverage around the pool. HOWEVER, These rules don't apply. I watched people being served drinks poolside and snacks. My husband stood on a plastic glass IN the pool. And a German man took a long cell phone call and paced up and down in front of our bungalow for 20 minutes.
THE NOT SO GREAT: We spoke to one or two staff and asked if it was quieter in the winter and they said definitely less children. Because of the KIDS EAT FREE policy there were A LOT of tourists with 4 or 5 kids running around. I do understand that the resort has no control over how people parent their kids and for the most part the majority were well behaved. According to the resort guide in the room the elegant, sophisticated, HMF bar/lounge is off limits to kids after 10pm. The manager is not policing this. After dinner each nite we stopped in the lounge for a nitecap. One couple came in at 9:45 with 4 boys age range approximately 5 up to 12. All the chairs were re-arranged for them, then they threw down the menu and stormed out because there is no kids menu in the bar. Here's the point: The resort offers babysitting and night activities for children so there was no need for these clueless people to inflict themselves on everyone in the bar. The next night a crowd came in at 10:30 with a three year old boy who was off his head with tiredness. He just kept jumping up and down and punching the palm trees and no one said or did anything. The manager should have explained the policy to these people.
THE BAD: There is ONLY valet parking at $25.00 a day. If you're not staying at the hotel and you go to the bar or restaurant and spend more than $25.00 then they validate parking and it's free. We rented a car at the airport and drove to the resort, when we pulled up they took the car and gave us a ticket with $25.00 on it. We thought that was a bit nickel and dime. When we checked out our bill was $ 2,400.00. They charged us $25.00 A DAY for the car!! I made a huge fuss and they took it off the bill but it really left sour taste. There is so much land around the resort they don't need to charge daily for parking.
Also, every place in the resort charges a 20% service charge. If you have a drink in one of the bars it's 20% etc. We are natural tippers and would have tipped anyway but be warned TIPS ARE INCLUDED!!
We will probably go back in Jan or Feb and we did have a wonderful time this trip. Everyone should go to The Breakers Palm Beach at least once.
Here's what you need to know. May to December KIDS 12 AND UNDER EAT FREE.

I purchased a salad at The Beakers News Stand so as to sit outdoors in the South Loggia after shopping in the Loggia Shops.
Within 20 minutes after eating, I contracted food poisoning from this salad and had to stop at a nearby Grocery Store to use the facilities, and the next door pharmacy for an over the counter medicine. I was in a lot of pain.
Upon return to the home where I am visiting, I called the Breakers and they did nothing. I called again today after a poor night's sleep and they again did nothing, and stated they would do nothing as they did not wish to accept liability.
I am visiting here, away from my doctor, so now I need to go to an ER; I am too ill to drive.
This hotel is disgraceful.

I try to go to many of the local spas in my city (Miami Beach) and we have tons to choose from since I live in such a touristy area. Most of the spas I have tried have been somewhat disappointing.
Boy am I glad that my husband has a business trip to Palm Beach this week! The spa at The Breakers is top of the line and puts most hotel and even resort spas to shame.
Not only did I have one of the best massages that I have ever had but the facilities themselves are worth writing about.
The waiting areas for guests are well stocked with fruit, Pellegrino, biscotti, nuts etc. . There is a lovely machine to make cappuccinos. So many spas skimp on these types of things lately. The locker room areas are pristine and fully stocked with any amenity you may need. The showers are large and clean with great soaps and lotions. Again, I have seen the quality of these types of things go downhill lately in many spas - but not here.
I highly recommend this spa . It is worth the drive from Miami and I will be coming back as soon - an as often- as possible.

It costs $25.00 to park your car.
The hotel interior is a must see. The ballrooms are spectacular.
The food in the seafood bar leaves a lot to be desired. The service stunk and they add a 20% service charge. A plain hamburger costs $18.00'to start plus 20% and tax.
Park on a side street and eat somewhere on Royal Poinciana Way which is walking distance to the Breakers

Does the Spa have different treatment rooms before you get your massage? For example at the Hard Rock in Punta Cana you do a steam room, ice bath, mud scrub before you get your massage.

Are there mini fridges and or microwaves in the rooms?? Also, how close are stores, markets, pharmacy etc offsite?
Written 16 January 2016
Some rooms have them, and there is a pharmacy on property, and some shops and restaurants within walking distance. They have car service, so you could easily be dropped off at Worth Avenue, and later picked up. Have fun!!
