Easy walking tour and informative. I would like to revisit and see the live cannon demo. Fun for everyone.

This deserves all the good ratings. The fort is a brilliant creation. Never defeated. The park service does a great presentation + film + the views are breath taking. The self guided tour is amazing.

Established in the mid 1500's, this Spanish settlement had to rely on time-tested European fortifications including a Castle and city walls. Because the Castillo De San Marcos was built to shelter the town's population during war, it is officially a castle although it is shaped much like an American Fort. Hey, it has a moat and a really cool drawbridge,... More

We visited the Castillo on a weekend and we're lucky enough to see cannon firings, musket demonstrations and enjoy seeing the Spanish and English uniformed volunteers. A very enjoyable way to learn about the history of St Augustine.

We were very impressed with this fort. It is in great condition and the exhibitions seem to have been updated somewhat recently--I especially appreciated that they included stories about notable women and minorities whose lives would have been connected to this fort. Unlike other Spanish forts of this general era (like in San Juan, Puerto Rico), this fort was large... More

This area is slowly recovering from Hurricane Matthew. We enjoyed the freedom of a tour at our own pace.

The Castillo is an old Spanish Fortress built to defend the city from foreign attacks, the walls are made of a mix of sand and Coquina....

Lots of photo opportunities as well as things to learn. Its use over multiple centuries by multiple groups defies a short summary - except it is still there to see and explore. The many groups of kids on field trips made me skeptical it would be enjoyable, but it is large enough to explore without being in the din.
