Definitely a hidden treasure in St Augustine
Museum is very well themed. Quality if the artifacts and stories are well thought of. This museum tells history in a fun but captivating way. It will leave you researching things after you leave. Make sure to the the colonial tour as an add on. Trust me you wont be disappointed.

    Good for adults and kids.
Authentic pirate museum! This is a museum of the private collection and personal findings of an underwater archeologist. Very intriguing and worth the time and money. Little kids enjoys the animation and teenagers enjoyed the interactive computer displays. As an adult, I enjoyed the history.
We're so glad you enjoyed the history, artifacts, and interactive displays at our museum! Thank you for this excellent review!

Kids Loved It! Fun for the Whole Family!
We spent almost two hours in this museum wondering around. A treasure chest of information with some really amazing exhibits and displays. The children found it to be very interactive with the cool treasure hunt and canons that fire. We enjoyed our time here. A must stop for those with young kids and history buffs or anyone that just loves pirates.
Hi Valerie! Thanks so much for bringing your family to the museum for a day of adventure! We're so glad to hear that everyone in your group enjoyed our collection.

Arrrr! This place is a real treasure!
This has to be one of the top two attractions in St Augustine. Everything was very well displayed and told stories about many legendary pirates and some we never knew about. There is a “treasure hunt” that keeps kids interested and the sheer history keeps the adults interested. Highly recommend this place.
Wow! This a fantastic compliment! We appreciate your feedback and five star recommendation. Thanks from the entire crew at the St. Augustine Pirate & Treasure Museum!

Employee basically called me fat, but the museum was interesting.
The museum itself deserves 5 stars. It was really interesting and interactive. I liked the treasure map you got at the beginning and being able to find hidden items throughout the museum. I also think they have one of the coolest gift shops! We bought a lot of souvenirs there. There is only one major reason I don’t give this place 5 stars: staff. I’m not looking to get anyone in trouble with this, but I think a discussion needs to be had with employees about what is appropriate to say to visitors. I don’t think this employee meant to be rude/hurtful, but she was. We were checking out of the gift shop and one of the women behind the counter asks me, “So when are you having your baby?!” I said, “What?” And she then repeated herself. I then, humiliated, had to tell her, “I’m not pregnant.” She said she was very sorry but that was not a question she should have asked. I am already extremely self-conscious and this was very upsetting. It put a dampener on the rest of the day. Unless someone actually tells you they are pregnant, you don’t say anything, even if you are certain they are. It’s a very sensitive topic for a lot of people. So again, I don’t want to get anyone in trouble because this employee did apologize, but I don’t want anyone else to be hurt with comments like this. It was so embarrassing and upsetting for me. My husband was obviously upset too. This was not something I wanted to hear about my appearance on my honeymoon.

    A Museum worthy of Disney!
Really a fun museum. Lots of interactive displays where you can actually learn alot about the pirates who plundered early Florida, how they lived on board their ships and their fates. The second half of the museum is devoted to how pirates have been depicted in films and on TV -- also very interesting and probably more entertaining for the kids. Great gift shop, too! I love my skull and crossbones T-shirt!

    Authentic and fun Pirate Museum
The curator of this museum spent a lifetime collecting artifacts of pirates and their history. He has paints and mannequins depicting real pirates and a brief history of each one. There's lots of weapons on display. Worth the visit since Florida is pirate territory. Buy tickets at the gift shop. Open late so no rush to get to. Lots of bottles and even the saloon cocktail recipes. Fun activity

The Pirate Museum, a "MUST DO" in St. Augustine
The Pirate Museum was one of the highlights of our St. Augustine trip. It's wonderful for children and the child in all of us. The exhibits were interesting and creative and even a little gross-out fun. It is chocked full of information on the pirate age. In response to a few negative reviews I've read here, the price of admission was well worth the experience. There was even an interactive game for children to search for pirate clues throughout the museum. I particularly loved that women pirates Mary Read and Anne Bonny were covered. I would have liked to have seen even more on them. The pirate museum doesn't miss a beat, it even covers our connection to pirates through decades of film.
Thank you so much for this thoughtful review, Glinda! We are so happy to read that you loved our collection as much as we do. Thank you for recommending us to highly! We hope to see you back at the St. Augustine Pirate & Treasure Museum again soon.

04/09/24 - We thought that this was great museum, alt of of history. We saw a guy dressed up as a pirate and he was talking to some school kids and teachers, so we hanged back and listened to him and got a lot of more history of the pirates. To us this museum was great and I I highly recommend this place.

    Great experience
I totally recommend going to the pirate and treasure museum. When you first walk in you get a treasure map and have to go on a hunt. Find the clues and write them down and at the end you get treasure. The kids had such a blast and learned so much. It's cheaper if you buy your tickets online but overall affordable.

We (four history-loving adults) visited here on Dec. 31 as part of our three days exploring St. Augustine; we had purchased discounted combination tickets online with the Colonial Quarter (reviewed separately).

This was a fun and interesting museum to check out, with nice artifacts and displays on a topic many of us probably know little about beyond popular culture references. As one learns here, piracy was an unfortunate reality of the times (the descriptions of typical “punishments” that were doled out was gruesome). All, in all, it took us about 45 minutes to walk through and see everything. As a history buff, I found it added to my knowledge of the area’s history and of piracy in general. (We did not encounter Captain Mayhem during our visit.)

My only complaint here is that the exhibit areas are small and a bit cramped. It didn’t take too many new visitors entering behind us to crowd the available space, making it hard to linger at exhibits to read all the informational signage, as I wished.

Thank you so much for taking the time to make us a part of your St. Augustine journey - we truly appreciate it! It's true, we don't have a lot of space to feature the 800+ artifacts and exhibits throughout our museum, but I am glad to read that you found a lot of history to learn about and enjoy. Thank you again for bringing your crew to spend a while with ours - we hope to see you again on your next visit to the Nation's Oldest City!

This is a fine museum for someone that is more into pirates than my husband and myself. It seemed over priced for what we got out of it. Oh well, at the very least it was something different than we’ve been to before. There is not parking at the museum, you have to pay to park in the public lots, so make sure to spend some time checking out all the area has to offer.

Two adults visited this attraction on a Wednesday afternoon in early January. We spent about three hours but we like to read all the descriptions, and there were a lot of them. Also, there were many interactive exhibits telling the stories of famous pirates.

Note that many but certainly not all of the museum exhibits require reading in order to get the most out of them.

An enjoyable way to spend an afternoon. Plus this time of year, they're open until 7pm, whereas most other attractions in town close around 5pm.

It was pouring so I thought I would explore this museum while waiting for the clouds to depart. I wouldn't say that I am a huge pirate fan but I was impressed with the museum layout and would go through it again if I found myself in St. Augustine with different friends. I really enjoyed the treasure hunt game that you have the opportunity of playing after you pay the admission fee. . This little game slowed me down enough to read more display boards than I normally would have thereby adding more time to my visit. Word of advice - be prepared for a lot of children and plan on spending about an hour here.

The museum self guided tour took us an hour and twenty minutes and was time well spent. The tour included many stations and display cases of weapons, salvaged treasure, and pirate artifacts, including one of only 3 existing "jolly roger" pirate flags in the world. A replica gun deck of a pirate ship provided the visitor with a glimpse of pirate life. One station had a digital book that described the lives and deaths of many infamous pirates such as Blackbeard, Henry Morgan, Black Bart, Stede Bonnet, Anne Bonney, and Capt. Kidd. One of the artifacts displayed was Captain Kidd's engraved treasure chest! You have the opportunity to pick up a salvaged gold bar as well. If you are a senior, you get in for $12.99. Very enjoyable!

Our group of 7 were all adults, and did the self-guided wandering around tour. Lots of displays and interactive screens seemed to engage all ages there. We liked reading about each pirate, and life on a ship. The artifacts from the era are numerous and include more than we expected.

There was a guided tour by a character in costume available every couple of hours. Call for times. Ramp entrance available for easy access.

Thank you for coming to see us! We're glad that you were able to enjoy both the educational and entertaining aspects of the museum as you took the self-guided tour through our exhibition. It's true that we do offer a pirate-guided tour 4 times on Saturdays (1030AM, Noon, 130PM, and 3PM) and on various dates throughout the year. We're pleased that you came to visit!

This is a serious look at the importance of the Golden Age of pirates. Many artifacts and replicas combine with interpretations to give this history its due. There are also good connections to search and salvage efforts that have given us a much more real view of this time. The museum is designed to be enjoyable as well as informative as you imagine to walking around on a pirate ship or visiting an island and you even get a story from the head of Blackbeard but the history is not lost. Visit this museum so you can have fun and learn at the same. Don’t we wish school was more like that!

My 6 and 9 year old liked the treasure hunt going through the museum, but once that was over they were bored. I think we were through the museum in 20-30 minutes. the gift shop was more exciting for them, ha, and it was very small and packed with people checking in. i thought it was overpriced for how quickly we were able to go through it.

We visited on a cold day where we wanted to do ANYTHING inside. We found this museum along our walk and gave it a shot. Not only do you get to go into a really cool, interactive, museum with endless pirate history, but you can also participate in a scavenger hunt. We had a lot of fun. Definitely recommend.

Our Grandsons are 9 and 11. We did all of the places of interests in St. Augustine. This was our favorite! The museum is authentic and has great history and artifacts, take the time to go through it and read the displays. An excellent pirate garbed guide entered and offered a tour, if you get this opportunity take it! He shared a wealth of knowledge and kept the kids of all ages entertained as well. I wish we would have gotten his name, long white hair and beard, great deep voice, well spoken and pirate expert. We would do this again!

We're so glad that you were able to explore all that we had to offer and even interact with one of our random, roving pirates - who, I believe, by your description, to be "Captain Mayhem."
