The water treatment ponds are a magnet for birds and the people who love them. The path to the ponds is pleasantly shady. The pond by the Bailey Homestead, which adjoins this trail, had a good size gator for us to admire the day we...More

The Shipley trail on the Bailey Homestead Preserve is a great place to walk to hook up with the Pond Apple Park Trail. My husband and I rented a nearby cottage and walked the trails repeatedly. Great place to spot wood storks, brown pelicans, cormorants,...More

The Pond Apple trail is not a long walk but the ponds are teeming with birds and wildlife - including alligators. If you look up in the far trees you can see Eagles nesting and the Aninghas are sunning themselves all round the lakes. See...More

I've biked all of Sanibel's trails, and this one remains my favorite. It's right in the heart of the island, ranging from the SanCap Chamber of Commerce over to the SCCF Native Garden Center, yet much of it is so secluded that it feels a...More

Walk it with binoculars and you will see a lot on this pleasantly planned walk. There is much to see from birds, aligators, racoons, eagles and one ocassion a bob cat. A quiet place to be so not for young kids.

We love biking through here. You can bike or walk all the way to the Bailey homestead which is now a museum and also enjoy the small native plant nursery. The roundtrip takes approx. 1 hour if you go slowly to enjoy the birds and...More

We were advised of this park by a native. It is small but the number of birds and how close you can get to them is impressive. It also connects to a walking trail that goes to a nature center. You can get much closer...More

This is a shortish but very worthwhile trail for the number of birds and how close you can get to them. There are alligators if it's sunny and with binoculars you can see the Eagles on the nest - if they are home.

We have been to Sanibel many times, and this was a new discovery for us. There are two connected trails: the Pond Apple Trail and the Shipley Trail. The Pond Apple Trail starts at the visitor center/chamber of commerce on the causeway and the Shipley...More
