This was our first time visiting Saibel Island. I'm not sure if it was the end of our 18 hour drive straight through from Jersey, or just the sight of the mangrove lined road that opened up to the Caribbean blue waters of San Carlos...More

We timed our return from Sanibel to just before sunset. From here the sunset is gorgeous. Note that if you want to go and are coming from the mainland, the place to see the sunset is beyond the toll booth.

I was riding the area and Sanibel Island was highly recommended. The views were great with nice beaches. A bit on the touristy side. I could imagine it getting very crowded. The toll is high to cross the bridge.

My husband and I met my cousin and her husband and their kids here for a Sunday afternoon. Great things about the causeway beaches: free parking, plenty of space, trash cans everywhere to dispose of whatever you bring, bathrooms available, nearby boat ramps for boats...More

The Causeway joins the mainland (Fort Myers) with Sanibel. It is a new stretch of bridge and road that is impeccably maintained. Along both sides of the road are public parking and beach access to the water. Parking is free but it fills up quickly...More

Just after you pay toll, there are several side of the road beaches...in between mainland and Sanibel Island. They have facilities like public bathrooms, drinking fountains, BBQ grills...NO LIFEGUARD...

The $6.00 toll keeps guest on Sanibel. This toll also keeps out non tourist as Sanibel can become a traffic nightmare.

While taking a little hike, my husband and I found the causeway beach. Other than it being a little more populated than we would have liked, it had a beautiful view of the causeway AND the lighthouse. If you're in Sanibel for any length of...More

Since they built it...$6 toll on Ft Myers mainland side...naturally no toll when you leave... Before such they had a ferry to the island
Can someone please tell me where you pay the toll? We never saw a toll booth and ended up with a fine.

I'm not sure how you would miss it since you can't go over the bridge without paying. There were two lines, one for the Sun Pass and the other for paying cash.
How do you pay for the causeway? Is there a cash line, credit card line etc.... Do you pay in quarters? Thanks.

For cars going to Sanibel is $6 and its cash only, unless you have a SunPass. If for any reason you don't have the money just stop and let the attendant know and they will bill you; it will cost you a few extra bucks.
