About
Founded in 1973, FST has grown to a village of five theatres located in the heart of Downtown, Sarasota. Each theatre is small in size and large in impact — providing intimate and engaging settings for high-quality, professional performances. Today, FST has established itself as a major force in American Theatre. FST is the largest subscription theatre in the state of Florida and among the largest in the country,* serving more than 230,000 live attendees each year across its diverse programs: Mainstage, Cabaret, Stage III, Children’s Theatre, FST School, New Play Development, and FST Improv. Even with its growth, Florida Studio Theatre remains firmly committed to making the arts accessible and affordable to as many people as possible. Under the leadership of Producing Artistic Director Richard Hopkins, FST develops theatre that speaks to our living, evolving, and dynamically changing world. Hip and historical, entertaining and challenging, we are the theatre where the street meets

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Have been to FST several times but “Up on the Roof” which we saw last week was the best show I’ve seen since we’ve been going there. The cast was excellent and sang songs from the 50’s and 60’s written by teams that worked for The Brill Factory in Midtown Manhattan. All of the singers were great but Jannie Jones blew it out of the park with her singing and definitely had the entire audience on edge. This is one musical that I would pay to see again. If you get a chance see it before it ends in Feb.

Attended Improv show tonight : "Life's A Beach"
Nothing and I mean NOTHING of the show was related to the title, mailings and posters!!
Will not be back!! Took 2 other couples with us as guests and we ALL were so so
disappointed! Our guests even went over the poster/ad in the lobby after the show and were like " this wasn't the show we just saw"
False advertising in our thoughts! Will be calling to receive a refund! Will see what they say!!
When asking the audience for words/ideas ask them for Sarasota themed words if the show is to be titled " Life's A Beach"

A jewel in the crown of the expansive Sarasota performing arts community. Never understood how they manage to present multiple high caliber productions on three stages simultaneously throughout the season. Outstanding production quality in intimate venues with excellent acoustics. Sarasota is unique in its generous and steadfast support of the performing arts, and the results speak for themselves. Reasonable pricing, more so if you are a multiple show subscriber. Free parking.

We love the Florida Studio Theatre. We live in Venice since 2017 and subscribe to usually the Winter three shows.
We LOVE the cabaret style table set up. When we have company visiting we always try to schedule a show so they too can enjoy the experience.

We have seen 3 shows here. Great performances, excellent choice of seating, and reasonable prices. I never saw "Something Rotten" on Broadway, so I was looking forward to seeing the FST production and it did not disappoint. The staff was friendly and welcoming. I also just saw "What the Constitution means to me", and it was also very entertaining, funny, (and educational)

A very quint cabaret with very intimate seating.
We ate here before the show and the food was great but came really really slow.
The service was friendly and courteous.
The show western and country was really so much fun.

Thrilled to return to the main theatre this trip. SRQ aggressively supports it's performing arts and this place is a jewel in the crown.
Not a bad seat in the house. Productions frequently coming from/going to Broadway, off-Broadway and National Tours. Ticket prices are a bargain compared to major cities. Parking is cheap or free on-street. Masks and va x cards were required of patrons as of this writing.
There is a cabaret theatre and restaurant within the building complex. Look to book ahead as this is a very popular venue.

Being from NY, we are used to seeing huge Broadway productions, and have gone off-broadway and off-off-broadway. this theatre is a great place to see a show. it is small so it feels intimate, great sight lines, great acoustics. We had a great time!
