Relaxing bike ride in nature.

Lived up to reviews and expectations. Bikes for rent cheaply with paths both paved and gravel. Wanted to get back for a second visit but ran out of time.

Pros: cheap state park entrance fee (by the car), plenty of parking, several excellent trails, beautiful trails, saw a gator just resting out of the water, saw several armadillos. It's quiet and peaceful and just a nice place to walk. There is a long trail on an elevated boardwalk over water/oft flooded areas. A good part of this give kids... More

Went to the park for a bike ride on the three mile paved trail. The trail is actually a road that loops around. The area is calm and peaceful. BUT, watch out for the occasional driver in the cars who just can not abide by the speed limit on the trail. There are several places along the trail to park... More

Always delightful! A must do when anywhere near Highlands County! Has maintained its originality and uniqueness for 30 years. Very safe, but bring mosquito spray!

We recently stayed here for a long weekend. We booked two adjacent wilderness sites for our group of friends. Please make sure you see pictures of your sites before you book... we ended up with a small site and a larger one.. not a big deal but just check to get a comfortable site. They sell fire wood at the... More

A casual open air venue in the middle of a former nursery. Specials are cooked at the whim of owner Lolly. Some times it is a recipe that she decides to try. But not to worry, all dishes offered are wonderful. Try a crab quiche or a spinach and bacon....yum! Sandwiches are awesome. Generous portions.

We recommend a visit to this well designed and maintained nature park. The paths and catwalks though the swamp and surrounding forest are facinating. if you can make the time, and you can if you want too, take a simple lunch and a book and enjoy a relaxing time of simple pleasure. We visited in early November and encountered only... More

We loved this place. We walked and walked and walked. We saw lots of new birds at this park. Very serene. Lots of people there that day but you just have to walk as quietly as possible.

The oldest State Park in Florida with a lot of history for the first settlers. A lot of scenic sites to explore along the paved bike trail which is almost totally shaded by the large oaks. We visited this park annually.

This is an amazing park, with many hiking trails and just beautiful scenery. My husband and I truly enjoyed the time we spent here in April. That being said, the campground at this park leaves much to be desired. Campsites are very close together, with absolutely NO privacy. You are basically separated from the next campsite by a log. Because... More
