This place is a bit of a local bathing pool. There are many people who bring shampoo and bathe right there in the springs, which is kind of gross. Perhaps we happened to go at a bad time - I'm not really sure. The water is warm but cloudy from residue of people bathing. Would not visit again.

This “hot” spring is a joke, it’s not gonna do much for your body. It’s the first hot spring in my life where water isn’t even close to being hot. The state of the toilets was an embarrassment to all Peru unfortunately. Would never ever go back. Only good thing is cold shower coming down from the mountain stream. I’ve been to few other hot springs in Peru, it’s incomparable. If you think you’re gonna heal your body after trekking, just forget this one.

Cannot be more disappointed! The website is very misleading. Out of 4 pools only one is functioning. A lot of construction is happening which is not mentioned on the website. For the lack of pools and facilities the entrance fee should be reduced. There are no towels onsite or a place for beverages and food, this is outside the park. The toilets do not have toilet paper, you have to buy it outside at the shops. The park entrance staff do not speak English and are quite rude, no foreign money or credit cards are accepted. If you are coming here based on the website DON'T. We researched the location and which hot springs were best rated. Cocalmayo is definitely a disappointment. It's far removed and not worth the time and effort.

The setting is quite natural but I only arrived in Santa Teresa at night, so it was nice to take a bath in the hot waters of Cocalmayo, after my dinner. I wish I had had time to visit the pools during the day as the landscape with the mountains is well worth it. The changing rooms are basic.

Pretty decent place to spend a couple of hours. Lovely scenery and the hot springs were nice and clean. I saw someone complain the waters weren't close to being hot. If you say so! I found the temperature to be perfect. They were warm enough without being absolutely scalding! Lovely place.

I made plans with some friends and we went to such a beautiful place, without a doubt it is a hidden gem, the water is crystal clear and the environment is very natural! I totally recommend it! Before or after going to Machupicchu!

This is great spot. Perfect for your tired Machu Picchu bones and muscles. 45 minutes train from Machu Picchu town station to hydroelectric station then taxi for 35 to Santa Teresa then another 15 min to springs. Water temp is different in each pool. Natural volcanic super clear spa;) it's open really late and there is a small camping area perfect for backpackers. Toilets , little stalls with drink and local food

I agree with everyone that it is an excellent hot spring that’s clean with great facilities. I also agree about the ferocious sandflies that had a feast on our exposed flesh when we got out of the pool. The bites are nasty and I am now worried about getting
cutaneous leishmaniasis. I hope it won’t turn out to be the case.

You can take a collectivo from Santa Teresa for a few soles per person, or walk 25 minutes to get to these hot springs. The pools are outdoors, surrounded by mountains and situated right by a river. We paid 10 soles per person for entry.

There are change rooms, bathrooms, cold outdoor showers, as well as little shops for snacks and drinks. You can buy cold beers, but you won't be allowed to bring them to the pools.

It's warm and tropical here, and there is no shade in the mid afternoon. Later in the afternoon, the pools are in the shade of the mountain. There are 4 large pools, with the hottest one right up top. There's also a little area to the side where cold river water flows out from a little waterfall. I love alternating between the hot and cold water to soothe out aches and muscle tightness. :)

My only complaint is that there were these awful bugs that draw blood when they bite. They leave holes in your skin that itch and hurt, and they seem to take a long time to recover from. They come out full force in the evening so be sure to spray on some deet. I still got bites even with copious amounts of repellent.

My husband and I love hot springs and we were so excited that Peru had so many hot springs locations. However, after visiting approximately five of those locations, we became concerned that maybe the hot springs in Peru didn´t quite measure up to other hot springs. However, the hot springs in Santa Teresa were wonderful. Even better, arriving there on the third night of the Salkantay trek it was such a nice treat!
