A small but important rookery close to civilization - actually right on Tamiami Trail behind the Court house and Florida Highway Patrol HQ...Lots to watch and see. Sun down is the best time to go when all of the birds are returning...Parking can be a...More

A wonderful place to visit, just to watch birds being birds. A variety of species nest here in the spring. In March, we saw birds constructing nests, birds guarding eggs, birds feeding their hatchlings, birds flying to and from the nests, etc. Serene and beautiful,...More

This is a small, but lovely heron/egret rookery. Photographers flock here for early morning and sunset pictures. In addition, there are bat boxes, and at sunset you can watch the bats as they leave the boxes. In the winter look for beautiful night blooming jasmine.

This is a great place to set on a bench around the small pond/lake to relax, and watch the birds building nest, feeding there young chicks, and spotting an alligator.

The Audubon Society Rookery had been recommended to us by friends, and we are glad we visited--twice actually, at midday and then later the same day at sunset. During the day there are few people, but near sunset it gets crowded--with birds, people, and cars--...More

This was just a pit stop for me. I love nature but I’m not a hardcore birder. I was expecting the place to be in the middle of nowhere but it is literally situated in the back of a subdivision. It’s a very quaint park....More

We have been here several times and always enjoy seeing the many nesting birds and birds displaying during mating season. A bit hard to find the first time we went as it a distance off Tamiami Trail and the directional signs are small. Go just...More

This area is a pond with an island perhaps 50 yards from the shore, where many water-related birds may be seen. One can walk around the pond, although a paved path is not available all the way near the shore. For people from other states...More

Stopped by the Audubon office and found that right on their grounds was a rookery on an island protected from predators by a resident crocodile. Birds were building nests as we watched while others were tending to their young chicks. Very interesting.

We stopped in after lunch to view the birds in the rookery. I would recommend going 1/2 before sunset as that is when they all the come in to nest at night and you will see hundreds . If you are an early riser you...More

Went to the rookery last evening. Nestlings, especially herons are near adult size. Ibis are more like babies. I can't say what it would be like by April.Nevertheless, I can say that the rookery will be a great place for... More

We are renters ourselves, so we do not have anything available. I would suggest trying some of the real estate companies in Venice.
