The sanctuary has done a great deal to end the suffering of donkeys on Antigua. There is no entrance fee and a chance to groom the more docile donkeys.donkeys that find human contact stressful are kept safely away from tourists. Whilst they would like a donation adoption is just over 20 pound a cheap day out .Will make you feel... More

We spend around 3 hours in the paddock with the donkeys grooming them and giving them lots of fuss. It was so relaxing and peaceful and all the donkeys were in good health. The staff were excellent informative, welcoming and helpful. Well worth a visit and with the sun on your back what a wonderful and rewarding way to spend... More

Absolutely a must. We tend to travel for our own benefit and luxury and forget to thank, in the many ways possible, the community that welcomes us in open arms. High recommended and for a good cause.

We visited Antigua in February and drove by a sign advertising the Donkey Sanctuary. We just had to find the sanctuary. Roads are not well marked in Antigua after the last hurricane. We saw the sign along the road between St. Johns and Jolly Harbor. Don't get fooled like we did. Thought the sanctuary was near the sign but upon... More

Glad you visited us. Sorry you had a hard time finding us. Matters have been made worse by the fact that the "official" map has us located on the western side of the island (where you saw our promotional sign) whereas we are on the eastern side near the Village of Bethesda. The publishers have promised to correct the error... More

If you love donkeys this is well worth a visit. You get a very good and helpful guide (we had Vincent) and the opportunity to brush the lovely gentle donkeys. I would recommend wearing closed shoes as the friendly donkeys can step on your toes! It is free but they welcome donations and, if you want, you can adopt a... More

Glad you enjoyed the visit! Thanks so much for suggesting the closed shoes. We have a sign with that request at the entry gate but most folks arrive in flip flops! So far no major problems but donkeys are not lightweights! As you might have noticed, we also don't permit feeding the donkeys by hand. When kind folks bring carrots... More

All the donkey's in the corral were docile and loved being petted. If you have children then obviously its wise to keep them supervised but all the animals were human friendly. This sanctuary is well run by the Humane Society. It is well off the beaten track in a rural part of eastern Antigua. Though the entrance is well marked,... More

It was lovely to come back and see my adopted donkeys. They were looking good and it was feeding time so didn't rush them this time. Steve the blind one was wondering around and enjoyed getting lots of attention. There carers do a great job looking after so many. Good job there is a place like this that looks after... More

Spent an hour at the sanctuary helping to brush down this friendly group of donkeys who have a loving home. A really commendable endeavour that protects animals that are often neglected in Antigua where cars and ATV's have reduced the utility of donkeys. It's free to visit, but a donation is welcome by the fine people who launched this sanctuary.

Thanks so much. In this dry climate the donkeys get very dusty and love to be brushed as often as kind folks will brush them. More
