Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This place is a must do when visiting Barbados, the setting is so beautiful and atmospheric with outstanding views of the east coast. On our previous visits, the college and its grounds seemed somewhat neglected and in need of some TLC. Previously you would wander around, feed the fish in the lake and be unlikely to see anyone at all when looking around. This time we were pleased to see that they are charging a nominal fee of 10 BDS for entry, they've upgraded parking and the loos, a small cafe will soon be open and there were 3 gardeners tending the vast lawns front and back. Some might see the introduction of charges as a backward step but we're more than happy to contribute such a nominal sum if it assists with the upkeep of the place. The guy at the entry gate was charming and helpful and a great asset to the college. We'll definitely be back.

It is a nice place and a grand view. It is sad however that only the outside is accessible to the public.
if you are in the area, as we were, it is worth a visit - but not worth a long drive.

Codrington College is an amazing setting, an Anglican seminary set on the most beautiful coast line. Sit for a while and enjoy the peaceful nature of the place.

We arrived today for Sunday lunch. The website states the restaurant is open for buffet from noon until 3:30. It was 2:00 when we arrived and the security guard refused to let us in. When we mentioned we were there to eat at the restaurant he I stated sternly that we were not allowed in! He would not even give us a reason….just kept telling us to leave. We kept driving and ate up the road at Atlantis instead. We won’t be back!

This is a great place to walk around for 30 minutes or so. Great picture taking opportunities. Pretty architecture and gardens/lawn area.

It’s definitely worth at least driving down the drive and taking a peek even if you don’t go in - $10B to enter and see the chapel etc. if you are into architecture or history then it’s worth it.

The grounds, the buildings and the view of the sea are beautiful, dramatic really. You should know that visitors are welcome to have lunch in the dining room. We had a delicious lunch of roast chicken, noodles with vegetables, salad, and a fruit drink for only $20 Barbados.

We were pleasantly surprised on our first visit. The guards were friendly and chatty. New driveway was being done. The grounds looked well kept. Indeed there’s an admission fee but just think of it as mere contribution. One of the guards explained to us the college would like to set up a museum and put on a display many things for visitors to enjoy and learn from. They also plan to clean up the pond and do some maintenance work there.
We enjoyed walking around and had a good laugh watching the ducks and fish. Before we left the guard was really happy to answer our questions and shared many interesting facts about the past and the present.

Have visited this stunning place many times over the years. Fascinating buildings of historical importance, beautiful gardens with fantastic views, peaceful and tranquil. Used to be able to wander in which added to the charm of the place.
I understand that money is needed for maintenance costs. And the new charge for entry is small (10 Barbados dollars). For which you get let through the gate and a wristband is fixed around your wrist. Maybe I'm being overly critical but I found the wristband part really strange, unnecessary, and a bit tacky which is incongruous with the experience. An information leaflet would have been welcome (since the admission price is for a 'self guided tour').
We saw 3 cars turn around on having the charge explained to them. Perhaps some information regarding the upkeep and a donation box may result in more visitors and income? I accept not all would donate but I feel the majority would. The current set up has sadly put me off coming back, not because of the cost itself which is minimal, just it no longer feels so special and unique. It's amazing how much a poorly thought out commercialisation can change the ambience.
