This popular park on Lake Allatoona is ideal for swimming, water skiing and fishing. Visitors can bring their own boats or rent from nearby marinas. A sand swimming beach is nestled in a cove and surrounded by trees, providing a great place to cool off during summer. Picnic shelters and group shelters may be rented for meetings, parties, reunions and other celebrations. Guests often stay overnight in rental cottages, a spacious campground or the park’s lakeside yurt. While best known for the 12,000-acre lake, Red Top Mountain is also a hiker’s haven. More than 15 miles of trails wind through the forested park, providing opportunities for exercise and nature photography. A short, paved trail behind the park office is suitable for wheelchairs and strollers, welcoming guests to explore a reconstructed 1860s homestead. The gravel-topped 4-mile Iron Hill Trail is open to both hikers and bikers, offering pretty views of the lake’s shoreline.Named for the soil’s rich red color caused by high iron-ore content, Red Top Mountain was once an important mining area. Iron pour programs are occasionally held near the Vaughn Cabin behind the park office.

This park is very clean and no trash to be seen. The Paths are very wide which makes it easy for passing. I do wish they had more dog trash containers throughout the walk. I mean who wants to carry around their dog poop for miles. We try to go here once a month. There are three main path that... More

Went hiking on the well marked trails in December. Very enjoyable particularly since my dog and I seemed to be the only ones there. This place has many spectacular views of the surrounding water and woods. Just Beautiful (even in winter)!

Stayed in Cabin #12 - 2 bedroom 2 bath - one with handicapped shower, one with tub and shower, full kitchen, screened in back porch with 4 rockers. Beautiful view of the lake. There are 2 cabins that are pet friendly, but this is not one of them. There is dish and dishwasher soap, and small bars of hand soap... More

We have the best time at Red Top Mountain. We enjoy doing outdoor activities with the kids that's close to home and this park is it. Great place to see wildlife. Nice open field to watch the deer graze and take photos. We enjoy the trails around the lake for walking and biking. We have recently been taking our kayaks... More

We were in the Cartersville area visiting for a week and had planned to go for a day to the beach area. We had so much fun that we came back an additional day!!! Be sure to bring little nets to catch minnows (and release of course) with. My 5 and 9 year old did this for hours!! The facility... More

Before now we've visited in late spring and summer when everything is green. This fall in GA has been a disappointment in the colors of leaves but not here! Even the roads you drive down through the park are pretty. I have a couple updates since the last time I reviewed this. First off, they had a fire at the... More
