This popular park on Lake Allatoona is ideal for swimming, water skiing and fishing. Visitors can bring their own boats or rent from nearby marinas. A sand swimming beach is nestled in a cove and surrounded by trees, providing a great place to cool off during summer. Picnic shelters and group shelters may be rented for meetings, parties, reunions and other celebrations. Guests often stay overnight in rental cottages, a spacious campground or the park’s lakeside yurt. While best known for the 12,000-acre lake, Red Top Mountain is also a hiker’s haven. More than 15 miles of trails wind through the forested park, providing opportunities for exercise and nature photography. A short, paved trail behind the park office is suitable for wheelchairs and strollers, welcoming guests to explore a reconstructed 1860s homestead. The gravel-topped 4-mile Iron Hill Trail is open to both hikers and bikers, offering pretty views of the lake’s shoreline.Named for the soil’s rich red color caused by high iron-ore content, Red Top Mountain was once an important mining area. Iron pour programs are occasionally held near the Vaughn Cabin behind the park office.

Before now we've visited in late spring and summer when everything is green. This fall in GA has been a disappointment in the colors of leaves but not here! Even the roads you drive down through the park are pretty. I have a couple updates since the last time I reviewed this. First off, they had a fire at the... More

This is a great park, lot of things to do and less than 20 minutes to drive to. There is several area to fish, swim, hike camp in a tent or housing, camper's welcome. So if you want to take the family to do something for the day and it not cost to much money, this is the place.

Northwest Georgia is nice this time of year. We've been to Red Top in the summer & have enjoyed renting a pontoon boat with friends. We thought we'd go up for our anniversary. Instead of using our tent, we thought we'd try their yurt. A yurt is a wooden framed, canvas covered circular 20 ft. tent with futon furniture. A... More

We stayed here with a group of friends that were spread around the campground. The first night, a Friday night, our neighbors uphill had a huge party with bright lights and noise until 2am. I had to go ask them at 12:40 and again at 1:30 to please turn off the lights and be quiet. We go camping to hear... More

It starts right outside the entrance of the Red top mountain state park. It is a 5.6 mile long trail. It is more strenuous than any other trails around. The trail is very well marked and takes you all the way to the Allatoona dam. I would recommend it to people that are pretty fit.
