This is an amazing cemetery full of Confederate soldiers.
Established in 1863, this was originally the resting place for 20 Confederate soldiers killed in a train wreck north of Marietta. It is the resting place to over 3,000 soldiers from all 13 Confederate states plus Maryland, Missouri, and Kentucky. There’s also a area where slaves are buried but sadly there’s no headstones for them.
There’s an actual 6 pound canon that was using the Civil War here as well. This is a wonderful historical cemetery that should be seen and visited by all. Highly recommend.

Very well maintained cemetery. The roads are very narrow and parking can be difficult. There weren't many visitors when I went so I was able to pull off to the side without blocking anyone. I liked the layout where the soldiers are buried by state. There is also a section for the soldiers who died in the Marietta hospitals. I was hoping to find two ancestors, but very few of the graves have names. The office was closed due to COVID restrictions so I was not able to inquire if there is a list of the soldiers buried.

We go to both the Confederate Cemetery and to the Union Cemetery in Marietta, GA at least once a year - to thoughtfully honor veterans who died for what they believed were just causes for their country. We live in a time of self-centered gratification - and it's good for the soul to know that some people were so dedicated to what they believed that they were willing to die for the cause.

As with any cemetery, this is hallowed ground. The cemetery is well maintained and a walk through history. For Civil War buffs, this visit is a must.

A reminder to me of the military cemeterys around France and Belgium. The story about the women bringing their fallen here. The confederate flag still flies. Interesting old loyalists buried here as well.

I've been to several Civil War cemeteries, this may not been the best, but it's well maintained and has a gallery of the states that took part, and a slave area, bronze statues, etc. Good for an hour or so if you're in the area and like history. We were the only people there, which added to the haunting effect.

A walk through the cemetery is a lesson in Civil War history and the impact it had on families and communities. The cemetery is organized by state, with burials from all Confederate states. Efforts to protect and maintain the cemetery also are commemorated with statues and inscriptions on the many benches. The neighboring City Cemetery includes a plot where slaves are buried. A scenic overlook from neighboring Brown Park offers a great view of Kennesaw Mountain. The new location of the Gone with the Wind Museum is an easy walk across the street, allowing an extended visit of movie and real history. A walking and bike trail connects the cemetery to downtown Marietta, a short 1-mile walk that's NOT recommended in the heat and humidity of the Georgia summer.

The solemn graves were also augmented by lifelike bronze statues of those who mourned the loss of their loved ones who gave all in defense of their homeland. A good place to reflect on the blessings of life, liberty, and devotion to family.

There is a calm to be found in the Confederate cemetery in Marietta and the small cemetery next to it, which holds the earthly remains of slaves not to be found in many other such sites.

As we wandered amongst the tombstones of men whose names we will never know, we were awestruck by the struggle of it all, and and wonder at the fact that so many today seem intent on refighting a war which well and truly tore a nation asunder.

I wonder how the men buried in Marietta would feel about their deaths being used as propaganda by news outlets and so called civil rights groups. They would have Probally just shook their heads and walked away bewildered.

I have only pride for the Confederacy, and the honorable men who fought and died by the thousands now lie in cemeteries like Marietta. Most never owned slaves nor cared about the issues. They answered the call by their country and sacrificed tgemselves. Now these men lie here on this hillside in Marietta and most leave a legacy of a tombstone with a faded name.

Come see this place and honor those who fought and died as soldiers.
